Why we REALLY need playerbase growth

Most of what we need to improve the game would certainly come with more people. I have voice my concern about this many times already, but we already get thousands of downloads a month.

We should not try and guess why they don't play the game. Maybe they aren't able to, maybe it's too hard, who the $#@! knows. An intuitive feedback system would greatly help us to figure out what keeps new players from playing.

I'm scared of getting booted, and at this point, I don't understand why people boot me for things like not nanning while flying the bomber, not D miners while podded, and other things that don't make sense to me. I want friendlier comns, but at the same time, no one wants to step up, since, often, like when I started trying, everyone just started fighting amongst themselves about what to do, and mutinying repeatedly.

It's mostly jackasses like Fufi who boot newbs for no reason, I don't think most other people really pull that @#(!.

More/less boots IMO is a very delicated point. Booting less would mean more incompetents (like myself) playing this game, since usually those players think they are awesome and know all about this game, when in fact they dont have any clues about how it really works, or simply they just dont read the chat at all. Booting more will just scare most of our gamers influx due to ppl gettin butthurt coz they cant handle gettin expelled from the game and not knowing the reason for it.

I thought about having something implemented that would explain to the booted person the reason of why he was booted and how to come back in game. Like an ASGS message telling him ("you were booting for not nanning the miner"). Also this should would work untill a certain rank (like vet1, inter 7?!) But I this is near impossible to be implemented.

Reason why booting is so popular is because we have a small playerbase in the first place. You can't afford 1 or 2 people, (god help you if more) screwing around in a 12v12 game. That's nearly 1/5 of your team... But then booting just drives new players away. If we boot less, ya we'll have more incompetent players, but we'll have more players. More players is ALWAYS a good thing.

EDIT: Yes I know it's 1/6th, but rounding goes to 17 and that's nearly 1/5, everything with me is 5's.

Hay guyz. Im one of the newbis you speak of :D

Just wanted to share my experience on how i stumble upon allegiance.

I came across the game becoz I was looking for a space combat game like freelancer/starlancer. Read a game guide about allegiance in somewhere and immediately fell in love with the concept and its complexity.

So I downloaded and installed the game around 2009. Played the training missions. Although graphics are not that g8, i didnt care. But when I tried to connect to a game I couldn't connect to th lobby. I tried many things to fix it but couldn't

After lot of reading someone mentioned that antivirus software can cause this problem. Had McAfee installed at the time. It was mandatory to have proper virus-grads, and other security s/w installed to use my university network. So uninstalling was not an option. Due to my love for the game concept i kept the game without uninstalling it. Over the years i moved from McAfee to avast. Avast also had the same problem.

last week i had to uninstall my virus-gard due to some other issue. So i just thought to give anther go at connecting to a game.... And eureka!! connected after nearly 2 years after 1st installing the game.

So guyz only less than handful of people who download the game will even get to this point.

Just wanted to point out another side of the problem. ( I myself need to find a good free virus-gard software to continue playing in the long run )

I cant see how a big playerbase is ALWAYS a good thing. IMO 1/5 persons being useless in a size of 12, hurts less more than 1/5 of your team in a larger player base.

We just experimented this sometime ago. A huge playerbase isnt good if mostly of them cant accomplish simple tasks like nanning miners, dropping probes & etc.

How exactly do you experiment having a large playerbase?

The point about the 1/5 of team thing is that in larger games there would be more room for booting and leniency.

Also for all those Int whores out there, there would be more of a chance for becoming a legend.
