new update: I just got a 700-1000 ping on planet. how'zat??? must be a record right? So what's the deal with 200+ ping? I never got less than 400. I don't suffer freezes on 500 ping coz I got a good connection. And i assume americans have got better connections so they shouldn't be worried about freezes or jumps or data loss at all. damn it sucks not being able to play. And the lobby is always empty when i get time to play. This is the major reason I think players from asia and aus not joining in. Otherwise being the largest continent in the world, we can produce a major player input. Still it does suck. DAMN

@TC - Aren't you playing any more? Given up?

Chicken and Egg problem, almost no Asian plays since there is no Asian server. No one creates an Asian server, since there are no Asian players. If you live in GMT+8 you most likely see an empty lobby.

Would be nice to have a few players here like the Korean Starcraft fanatics, which powns everyone on sight.

Anyway the way I see it Aussie/NZ/South Pacific/Asian players are screwed lag wise but the vast majority of people that play this game are Euros and Americans due to servers, sheer population and the fact the game is declining amongst younger people and people who have been around a long while who are married or work commitments, living the life etc.

I always hated playing stripe or gpz and looks like whilst these servers will help Americans/Euros by giving some a 20ms increase and an extra server but won't help any of us down under. in fact it will be worse and I'm frustrated enough as it is. Docmach is even worse than GPZ. But I understand all that, it's increasingly a game for euros and north americans now... with Planet gone and as more people won't play on Planet it's a surer thing. There's not many of us south hemisphere folks left and soon to be even less.

I'd say that would be a big loss TC, Hang in there buddy, maybe something will come from Cable's server that can help you out.

They aussie server would have been fine... if it had actually worked properly

It would be nice to see a good pacific server. The rest is up to promoting the game in that part of the world.

Well, I've actually heard you guys get really good internet over in Asia (depending I'm sure), as for the U.S it varies for place to place, the mid-west generally doesn't get the higher end connections as far as I know. For instance, where I live they decided to spend like 10-15 million dollars on improving the local internet stuff. Presumably because it sucked...

Anyway, its like TC said, a catch 22, if new people don't join because there are no players, then there will be no players for the new players to see

But I think we can get this community growing, and late night games (or midday in your case) have been doing surprisingly well lately.

you can never take asia as a whole for anything. Im sure there are people there who don't know what a light bulb is. In my country the commonly used net speeds are 512 kbps. So can't get most people to connect to the game as their pings would be massive. It would be better to improve the game around east asia. If we can at least get several players, it would be a start. But a closer server is needed.

Actually looking at this map it looks like closer to SJC2 is better for Aus and Asia than closer to LAX1 and it should be the same for EU players.
This was exactly my idea...it actually looks like the connections are even more conveniently located than I hoped.

I have spoken to Tiger Eye ....

He is sending me some details. One snag (which as a server admin I should have remebered is you can only have 20 in bbound connections on any desk top OS. but pulled another favor out of my ass . I manged to secure a licensed copy of WIndows server 2008 from another friend who wll be sending it over to me tomorrow to build out.

I have to get the thing patched and updated and software installed and hardened. With the proper patches etc. I can probally run it as a VM inside my desktop to run some test on it before moving it to where it will rest.

If we are lucky... maybe some time next week it will be up for testing and the following week it will be in it's data center.
