YO!
Hey guys this is captainpod. Been years since I have played and was attempting to get back in. I tried to message Tiger and it says I'm not allowed. I would like my old tag back and my son who plays (Koren) on a computer next to me would like to fly my wing. So I need to have permission on asgs for two players. I have other recruits that want to join but I want them to learn under my old tag.
Zekros aka captainpod
So why cant I message an Admin?

You shouldn't PM TE directly, posting here is the only correct way.
You want your old callsign back? What's that callsign (I guess captainpod), so TE can send the password via email.Zekros wrote:QUOTE (Zekros @ Jan 9 2011, 03:44 AM) I would like my old tag back and my son who plays (Koren) on a computer next to me would like to fly my wing.
Two players shouldn't need an exception. As long you don't get ASGS Protection Tripped error, it should work fine.Zekros wrote:QUOTE (Zekros @ Jan 9 2011, 03:44 AM) So I need to have permission on asgs for two players.

Sorry about that. Tiger and I were trying to work around a different problem in the past a long time ago and I got use to the dialog back forth. Did not know that had changed. Since you guys have post so promptly back I guess that is'nt an issue now. Thanks. LOL
Yes My tag was captainpod and if TE will reset the password to my new email then I can change the Zekros callsign for captainpod again right? TE never released it did he? That might be an issue if he did.
Unfortunately thats exactly what happened. We were on together for a couple of games and now it logs whichever computer is logged in off to log the other player on. Whats the proceedure for making asgs stop that?
Thanks again for the prompt response!

You can have separate household accounts without an IP exception - however, those machines must not be linked to a common nick. When ASGS links accounts, it sees all the nicks as belonging to one game account. A second computer logging in under the same game account (even if it's a different nick) will boot the other connection off. This is partly to prevent cheating and partly to ensure there's not two copies of "you" simultaneously. (Should a player drop connection, the server still has you listed until you time-out. Should you be able to reconnect before the time-out threshold is reached, the "dead connection" is disconnected, thus allowing you to uniquely re-connect. Remember, this game was designed for dial-up people, too.
)
So two people with the same IP can connect - as long as ASGS doesn't think they are the same person. Separate machines with separate game accounts (and never shall they meet) will work just fine.

Beer,
By "nick" I gather you mean router? And yes I only have one. These computers do share with each other true. But Pook years ago gave us permission to play together from the same IP address. It was obvious we were two different people. The ASGS can be set to unlink them to play or it could be then. Not sure what you guys have done to lock this game up against the hacks lately. lol So if this is no longer possible will ASGS allow a wireless connection or does it just see the IP the game is coming from and will prevent that too?

"nick" = "nickname", "login name", etc.
A router and same IP is ok if you you do not link the game accounts. (It's only proper that you also let us know that it's really two people sharing the connection otherwise there may be questions raised.)
But let's take a step back. Perhaps you're getting tripped up on terminology a bit. When you first sign in you create a game account and a forum account. Let's ignore the forum account and focus on the game account. Now that you have a game account, you are also permitted two other game nicks. Often called "hider nicks". That way you can log in as Batman, Robin and Catwoman. All these nicks are associated with the main game account "Batman". You can play under any of those nicks at any time. Stats and other data are all associated with that account. If your rank goes up, they go up in all three. If you kill two bases in the previous game, the stats for the main nick are appropriately updated. Ok so far?
Now you can have a second computer too. Perhaps you like to play on a laptop on occasion, or from the work PC. You log in using one of your nicks. That machine will now be also associated ("linked") with your account. So you're free to play your account on as many machines as you want. However, when you played on any machine the machine, too, was linked to that account.
Along comes a friend. You introduce him to the game and create a game account for him. On your machine. Oops. That game account is now linked with your game account because of the machine association. Got it?
So if you want to introduce friends to the game (which we heartily support and applaud) you need to be aware of how ASGS links things. They need to create a game account on a machine that is NOT already linked to an existing game account. Once the machines/game accounts have been created, they must continue to remain separate. You cannot use his machine to log in to your game account, nor can he use your machine to log in to his game account because they will become linked. Instantly.
I hope that explains how it works.
Now, if it happens that you DO have game accounts created and they are linked (as I suspect they are), then Tigereye needs to manually unlink them. He will need to know which game account (and related hider nicks) belong to Machine A, and which game account (and hider nicks) belong to Machine B. Would you like me to pass the link request on to TE?

Absolutely!!!
You have explained the problem perfectly(except for getting my old callsign "captainpod" back lol). Yes My callsign should be linked to my machine and it should be captainpod(forgot password to many years have passed. please have TE reset it) My other nicks should be "captainpod2" for dropping and coming back to a game as in the past and a hider "Zekros" which I have been enjoying podding your aces as a noob with lol. But as you explained it will not show me as a noob as they are linked sigh. Also My son's machine will need to be reset. He says he open his account at his mother's and it was "koren". I will let him place a reply on this thread if its ok to let TE know what nicks he wants. It had been so long since I played I forgot how that asgs linked the machines in this way and pook straighten it out that time. I really appreciate you taking the time to go through this. I think this post should be in LARGE BOLD letters to stop new players from doing what I just did in the Read Me First post. lol
Thanks again

hokay. I'll bring this thread to TE's attention.
A small technical correction on my previous post: You can create a game account for someone else on your machine, but you cannot login to that account through ASGS on that machine. The linking occurs when you use ASGS to connect - that's when all the authentication and linking happens.
