Good question. Not sure if I have a good answer.

I think it would make opening games much more... interesting.

But the point is moot if you play with high money settings.

If you started with a carrier you wouldn't have to wait for it to build.

Thinking about it though - it's probably good that you don't have a carrier right from the first second.

NOOOOOOOO. If every team started with a carrier, then the general playerbase might figure out how awesome carriers are, and then I'd lose what little edge I have over the average voob.

Alt versions of maps with alephs that are hard to find. Although that's out of the scope of this subforum.

That would result in slower games IMO, as it would slow down all tech research as both teams would lose economy faster. It wouldn't affect stacked games where one side loses 4-5 miners while the other loses none, just make it easier for the stacked side to crush the non-stacked side's economy.
