Yea, I also use Avast as well as those. It is very fast, very good at catching the crap and it's has a predictable updating system so I know that around 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. I'll be getting updates.

At the moment I blame on of my RAMs. I am using 4GB instead of 8GB. When I used the first set of 2 RAMs, it showed the same problem, with the second 2 RAMs, it hasn't so far. I am still testing though...

The symptoms you described can be caused by heat problems. The 3 minutes is a typical duration for a heat problem (since no other hardware related phenomenon takes longer than 5 seconds.).

Several ideas:
- Open your pc's box and place it in a not to warm room(e.g.). Does it solve the problem or delay the time between the events. Does it also change the duration.

-Listen: damaged fans are very loud, or if dead: completly silent. Any noise changes when the problem occurs( or in the last weeks before you had the problem).

(How old (and dusted) is your computer? Is it a laptop?)

I have a nearly identical problem grim, I am using avast.

After a period of time, alt-tabbing and such, Allegiance will begin to get very poor FPS to the point that it is unplayable.

I was thinking it was the program compatability settings (in the shortcut / exe), but so far that has not fixed my problem.

Maybe this is not the right thread for this but I have seen /heard many cases were people don't play allegiance because of the numerous/various Anti Virus problems.

I recall some time ago some work was being done on this. I recall saisoma?

For me I had to get rid of BitDefender because it would crash alleg a lot.

Is there a wiki with compatible AV programs as well we could have?

This is a situation in flux TC, as AVs which previously stopped Alleg. seem to work with alleg nowadays, at least on Vista/Win7.

Sai and I were exploring the issue, and we tryed testing a few clients which connected successfully with "problem AVs" even though we expected the connection to fail.

We haven't revisted it since, and I haven't seen a connection issue with the AV in here for a while.

The issue was/is with all the mainstream AV suites starting to block SSDP by default (usually with no option to toggle this setting), on which Alleg's networking code relies. If something changed in that regard, which would be awesome, that would mean, that the vendors retreated from this "feature".

I have no means to test the usual suspects (Norton and McAfee) to confirm this sadly

Yeah, the combinations and permutations of the various software suites (with and without firewall) and the OSes they're running on is rather large, then they release new versions to further complicate things. I'm looking to put together such a list, so any information that you have about what works and what doesn't is most welcome.

I do know that it appears that Norton (Security Suite?) seems to be working fine with Alleg on Win7, but that's the trial version that came bundled with my machine, so I can't say definitively what a retail or other variant might do.

If by Norton Security Suite you mean Norton Internet Security (a.k.a NIS) then it would be awesome, as this seems to be the most widespread vir... err, AV out there!
Come to think of it, there weren't any AV related threads lately, were there?

I need to point out, that it wasn't avg in my case. I don't know what caused/causes the problem for me.
Nowadays the problem doesn't appear in Windows, only in linux. A hardware problem? Dunno anymore. I don't care, as I don't use my Linux atm.
