(Yeah I know)

(But they do)

(Really).
You don't need another application, just another folder with Allegiance.exe and containing an artwork folder and dev folder (everything except ASGS) in that etc... then in regedit you go to Microsoft Games ->Allegiance -> 1.1 and change the path from your normal install to that folder and it should work when you run ASGS and select Beta Mode it will point to that folder, when you de-select Beta Mode it will point to your original folder so you won't need to do an additional download just to switch back from Beta (you won't even need to run upgrade/repair critical files when going back to regular Allegiance from Beta)

(I think, I would check myself but i'm at work)

Correct - the dev. team is entirely aware of such things.

But people are even less likely to use regedit than they are to download another App.

Using ASGS update/repair works mostly for me and others, and involves adding/changing nothing that comes with Alleg. It takes the minimum of user actions to get into the beta, and is the way we have decided to go forward.

If you have issues with it - I suggest you take it up with Bard directly.

they don't need to modify their own reg-edit, a file can be made to change it which they have to download once and run, bada-bing bada-boom.

To be fair I think both options should be shown so new/wary players can just keep downloading the new EXE's everytime while other players especially those with slow internet connections can just use regedit.

In my opinion;

It's foolish to publish a zone game that is supposed to take place on a server (BETA) that hasn't been tested. Yes there has been tests run on it, but not complete games testing the functionality to the point of calling it "playable".

You're advertising a ZONE game, I would think you'd want some assurance that it will work before you make the whole community goto the additional trouble of getting there.
[15:25] <BBT_> oh, so da vinci's mona lisa isn't his work?
[15:25] <+fuh-zz> No, he simply put effort into it.
[15:25] <BBT_> are you really that retarded?

Well, either we wait for R5 to go live with only the minimal testing we get now and then play Zone games on the exact same server. Or we play a ZG on the beta and use that as a test so that when R5 does go live it'll be well tested.

Here is the changes from Wednesday to what you will see in the ZG:

Tweaks to the drone stay dock interface. Carriers now working correctly.
http://trac.alleg.net/ticket/215 Mouse sensitivity improvements.
New drone ripping indication
An attempt at http://trac.alleg.net/ticket/19 Let us know if you can duplicate during the game.
A lot of work done on the new event logger. This game should give us reams of test data.
Random faction selection. (No good Saturday, but still nifty)
