We should not let...
Edit: Imo combining a DIY course with a sessionised course is a bad idea, because (and I assume this is what is happening now) you have to wait for enough people to feel done with AFS in order to get a viable Cadet session going.Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Jul 31 2010, 02:06 AM) AFS is still basically exactly the same as Cadet I, and the students are still being encouraged just as strongly to continue on to Cadet II. The biggest difference is that rather than "graduating" Cadet I and then getting no assistance whatsoever for the three months it takes for a new Cadet II session to start, they enter AFS whenever they feel like and stay in it until the next Cadet session opens up. Essentially, it's a daycare for noobs to keep them interested and learning until Cadet time comes around. The only way to "graduate" AFS is to move on to Cadet II, so I'd say that Cookie Monster is barking up a nonexistent tree (is that nice enough for you, oh mighty mods, or am I going to get my post deleted again for being mean about how terribly wrong Cookie is about everything?).

Not quite, Cookie, although it can certainly look (and sometimes work) that way.
While the vast majority of influx into Cdt II is directly from @AFS players,
1) @AFS players are encouraged to move up when they think they're ready (push 'em out of the nest). They can also be individually approached and told that they're ready.
2) Cdt II is open to everyone who's been in @AFS for a bit, or has played the game for a bit longer, or wants to take it again, or is a returning player who wants a refresher.
Yes, Cdt II is held when enough demand exists to justify it, but it does take in members from all walks of Alleg life, not just @AFS members.

CDT II numbers/applications are actually rising with the extra publicity we have been pushing I think. We were ready to run this course just starting as soon as the last one finished this time.
Before each session starts we've been pushing likely AFS students we notice towards CDT II with PMs, nudges in game etc.

Everyone should be getting an ASGS message for most weeks in CDT when they login (when I remember to do them).
I put one up 2 days ago to mark the start of the course and to mark this week as "Advanced Scout Defence week".
Holy sh!t Batman, long thread. I can't read it all, so I hope it hasn't been suggested before.
Test moving prime time PUGs to 2vs2 teams.
a) 2x open spots makes wait in NOAT shorter
b) more average commander skill balance
c) even in unbalanced games you can score a partial victory defeating one of the enemy teams
d) it differentiates Alleg from all the Red vs Blue shooting games.
I think that addresses most of the problems.

One major problem with this idea is the requirement of 4 comms, hard enough to get 2 comms whatever the skill balance nevermind 4.
