So, Jimen, your basic argument as it actually relates to the subject of the thread is --- "more newbs will quit out of frustration if they think they're good on the newbie server and then find out they're not good after all, than will quit if there's no living newbie server at all and they are thrown head-first into a game where they have no idea what's going on as their absolute first impression of Allegiance."

I am... dubious, let's just say.

It's funny how Jimen keeps claiming, that he compared to any other new guy, who has at least a minimum of skill, is still the superior player, because his teamplay is so superior. Yet he owes me some ingame evidence.

My argument is that we're not going to make newbie servers prosperous because there are rarely THAT MANY noobs on at a time and the community is addicted to preventing helpful people from joining the newbie servers (lol, have an @Alleg sit in there and ban anyone who goes there just to whore the noobs, it'd improve the gameplay in Main too by being a voob honeypot). So because the newbie servers will never have a game larger than 3v3 at primetime, they will do jack @#(! for retention, and they will only serve to voobify those few we would have retained anyway. As you sit here in this thread with plenty of examples right in front of your face, while you try helplessly to debate with my geniusosity, don't you feel even a twinge of "hey maybe inflating the noobies' EGOS could be a BAD thing"?

Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Jul 23 2010, 10:00 PM) No, "they" are working on code to make autobalance ignore newbies. Which is great save for two things: a) autobalance is rarely on, and b) autoaccept is rarely on. Balancing by AS isn't going to cause commanders to start manually accepting newbies, so once again it goes back to a social problem.

Moreover, there is no "they" here. None. Nada. The change you mention is being done exclusively by ONE person, who's coded like half a dozen patches already. I note for the record that you and he were in the same Cadet class, yet he's accomplished all this for the community and you've done jack @#(! except sit in here and talk about stuff you know nothing about. Newbie servers? Really? How would you know? They were dead when you joined, so you had to learn by jumping in and playing just like all the rest.
Jimen, you really set me straight. I knew that when I joined Allegiance I should've learned to code too! THE ONLY WAY I WILL EVER BE USEFUL IS IF I WORK ON ALLEGIANCE LIKE YOU JIMEN! Wait a sec, you... don't seem to be part of the dev team either. What have YOU done? Oh, I remember. You made Cadet II The best damn thing on the planet. Doah! [/retaliation][/sarcasm]

PS. The autobalance code would work all the time because, as Xynth said before, it's for Autobalance 1

The main reason I think we should go with the newbie server thing is because:

A. Girlyboy seems to tell a pretty good tale about it
B. I agree with Girlyboy's reasoning
C. Because out of everything discussed here, this would be the simplest thing to get working. Would it really hurt to give it a shot?

Ockham's Razor anyone?

Elzam

You've taken some crap over the months, some of it deserved some of it not, that's for sure but do yourself a favor and let this one go. Oh continue to stir up drama via a dust up with Jimen  he can handle himself fine, but on the subject matter, of ranks and autobalancing, you have no clue at all.

Xynth

You are doing it wrong, please come see me. I'll explain why, what you should be doing, who to see. Your current effort I will work to insure never sees the light of day. It's that bad of an implementation.

Actually, more adults play videogames today than ever before.
