Well, IF they are still willing, then our best bet is support an already existing function that they have in place. They will want to poll their own server and not trust a third party page (understandably, even though they would be trusting third party code, they can verify by looking at ips connected to the server if they want to check every once in blue moon). Already having the return data in a gamespy format would allow them to just "plug in" to existing statistics tools. They aren't likely to build anything to massage our data into a format they could use for stats. We aren't halo or anything;).
That is IF they are even willing to consider us again. I'm emailing them now.
Server Query capability
They've responded in a positive manner:). Imago, I know we couldn't get the SDK from GameSpy, which is a bummer, but would you (or any other coder) be willing to build-in some kind of query support (qstat is the preferred method) to the server?
If we can get this, I'll work to coordinate an AU push with marketing as best we can.
Here's the response from Nick:
QUOTE Hey Anthony,
We’re always willing to run up a new game server as long as it’s going to come with a player base. If the server install etc is a lot easier now I’m quite happy to give it a go. That was one of the main issues last time. We’re now only running Windows 2008 server on our windows game hosting boxes, will the server run under this, and do you have an estimate on the install/configuration time?
The big one is still player numbers though. Is there no way to coders can make the server respond to some sort of query? We use ‘qstat’ for most servers – could it be made to respond to any of the many queries qstat is capable of?
We’d be willing to do up a 3FL frontpage news article to try to drum up interest if this can be done J 3FL articles are also pushed onto the iiNet.net.au homepage which gets a lot of traffic.
Cheers,
Nick[/quote]

linkee
Its a question of how to get qstat to recognize Allegiance. If it does then I imagine the company will handle the queries. Figuring out settings and flags to insure it works is what we need imho.
Id summon Fuzz who is the exact right man for the job imho
NASA uses it for generic queries of their servers
SourceForge linkee for qstat source.
