Some people *like* doing those things. Me, for example. My idea of a *great* game is one where I get to spend the whole game doing team-useful things in a scout.

My idea of a truly AWESOME game is when I get to spend the entire game nanning towers.
_SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jun 8 2010, 04:57 AM) If you don't want to compete then don't sign your squad up for a competition.
For some people it's not about the competition. The squad tournament games are a way to get in one game, almost every week, that's not subject to pug idiocy. Maps will be decent ones, settings will be reasonable, games will start mostly on time, noone will be spamming 20 voicechats in 10 seconds, attempting a mutiny every 2 minutes, or doing other things that require someone to bust out the enforcer, and in-game tactics are highly likely to involve something OTHER than a 4 hour capship whorefest.
_SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jun 8 2010, 06:52 AM) So you agree winning is fun. NJ is arguing that it isn't about winning which seems a little ridiculous for something that is organized as a competition.
It's *NOT* about winning. If it were just about winning, always winning, and only winning, RT would have disbanded like SPQR and DSM and probably done so within a year of being formed.

Sometimes it's just about being able to fly on the same team as your friends once a week.
Winning is the causational effect.
I'd call it a perk, but the perks are:
A- Going home and banging the cheerleader afterwards
B- Watching the whiners and laughing maniacally with a big fuzzy cat on your lap.

Yeah, just like commanding a team; you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him suck you off, much to certain people's apparent chagrin.

Here's my point of view on this. i agree squads shouldn't be a social club. SF forums are almost 100% dead right now (no social club here).
i compare sg's to something like paintball tournements. Your out there to kill or be killed and the more intense the better.

When a squad is winning it attracts good new players and good veteran players. When it's losing it makes it very difficult
to pull in talent and keep the talent you have. The advantage sysx and xt have, is they have many very good commanders.
I can see how players would want to fly for those squads. I understand how cable is thinking. It's easier said than done. guitarism
tried to revive spqr and it didn't work out. SF was slowly getting better and better, then people just quit playing or left...they
haven't recovered like sysx or xt. Maybe allegiance would be better if their were only 6 squads. cable wants these squads to grab the bull by the balls
and charge full speed ahead. Maybe some of these squads don't have the people to do that. i wish all 9 squads could be equally competetive.

What I said;
TeeJ wrote:QUOTE (TeeJ @ Jun 8 2010, 10:06 AM) If you're so concerned about the affairs of other squads, join them or shut the $#@! up. k? I will listen to any feedback or advice, and even put much of it into action, but for someone to post some random @#(! that has nothing to do with themselves...well....I call them UncleBuck. Cable=UncleBuck?

As a person who has busted his ass to hold things together, along with most of my squad members, I agree with what you're saying. What I don't understand is the seemingly unprevoked thread that seems to be a "look at me, I rarely post but will now make an epic thread" kind of tactic.

What I should have said;

QUOTE As a person who has busted his ass to hold things together, along with most of my squad members, I agree with what you're saying.
Sorry Cable. I shouldn't have posted from work.

i happen to think this is absolute horse@#(!. there is a difference between passive leadership and active leadership. People (should) have hats for a reason

QUOTE What's wrong with a social club? It's a very limited view of this community to say that SGs are the only function of squads. I personally want to be in a squad with people I like and enjoying playing games with. Winning with those people makes it even better but it's by no means the whole of it. If a squad isn't a social structure then why do people wear their squad tags throughout the week and not just on SG days?
I dont think anyone is saying there cant be a social aspect to the squad, in fact it is vital to keeping everyone together. But squads are competitive organizations, formed so that they can play more organized, competitive games. If you are just going out to $#@! around and not try then whats the point of being in a squad? You would be well enough off playing pugs. Winning isnt everything, putting forward your best effort is

in case anyone forgot, cable WAS sl of sysx during its rocky year(s). the people him and paps recruited during those times are the core of pilots we have now that kick everyone elses ass

The thread is not unprovoked... the thread is years of watching different squads and constantly hammering my squad mates on how to avoid other Squads pit falls.

It is about sharing some ideas in a tuff love format.
It is about being tired of people being disrespectful of others time.

It is born out of a love for all the SQUADS and a desire to see them not go under and to prod them and their members to action.

It is about being frustrated and finally deciding to step out and prod the cows.... to see if I can motivate a few Bulls....

Moving along.... with the lessons....

It is not an accident that SYS can lose people like ICky , Malicious Wariths, or X, or Phantom or.....(fill in the name.) and still be competitive. Each of those people are very decent whores yet their loss did not set us back. Even Spidey can miss a game or two and we can win. That is not an accident either. We (the squad) decided /disccussed that no one player should be SYSX. We have mechanisms in place to try and prevent any person from being indespensible.

This is however about respect .... and getting your acts togther.. Consider this an old man tutorial on doing the right thing....

When you join an organized team that is part of an organized league , and you sign up to be in a tournament have the respect to show up. This is real life. There are real people. Making a real comittment. It is a matter of planning. I do "my husbandly chores" so that I can have Sunday's between 3-5 blocked out. My wife knows I will do what ever ...or go where ever but like a school class, or taking up as a little league coach, I have made a commitment to my squad memebers and to the Squaded community to participate.

I activley particpate in dicusssions in my squad to ensure our membership is not so poorly staffed as to not allow me to miss some games.

My squad members actively communicate with each other and my squad leadership takes the time to let us know when we are going to play. Our showing up to Squad games is not an accident. People care enough about each other to show up. The Squad leadership cares enough to arrange games and properly communicate that.

This is not rocket science, it is about respect for the other 20- 40 players who have committed to particpate. Sorry.... but that is real life people ..making a real life committment.

1. Don't sign up for a tounrament if you can not field a team.......(THIS IS the commitment part and the respect part)
2. Plan better and organize better to get a head count before the event and communicate with the other Squad . THIS IS BEING LAZY OR REPECTING OTHERS TIME
3. STAFF YOUR SQUAD SO YOU CAN MEET YOUR COMMITMENT. This is a team effort and a squad leadership part.
4. Create a commaraderie of people who want to play and show up. This is a team commitment and a leadership thing again...

I enjoy a competitve game. Most people do. I am not asking every squad to spend hours practicing or in a DM if you do not want to. However..... if you make a commitment to your squad and the Squaded community....honor it, or have the respect to let the other players know .

No one twisted your arm to be part of a squad. However if you make the commitment then honor it. It is really not an XT or RT or SF or SYSX, PK. GB or BS thing... However I have seen all of these squads exhibit these behviors and I have seen some do it consistently.

I have taken 2 hours out of my life or more to try an write these posts to spurn others to action. I have spent countless hours with my squad mates trying to find the right things to do to keep my squad successful. I am trying to pass that advice along. Again....if I have pissed a few flks off... good... it was my intent.. Only people who are offended have the potential to get off their ass and do something. The rest of the sheep will bleet about my post but do nothing constructive...

Show me the BULL who makes a difference... and you can stick me with the horns...

Just wanted to note that there are only two good comms between both squads. Myself and Mistress Vir
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday
