I agree, learning the basics of the game isn't that hard, but it is a PITA to stay on top of a fast moving game. Time is precious in this game and every second someone spends searching the chat for what the commander wants, is one more second they are not responding to it and it adds up quickly over the course of a game.SpkWill wrote:QUOTE (SpkWill @ Dec 26 2009, 02:41 PM) This isn't needed because it's not that hard to learn the game.
Having a small panel that shows the commanders currently assigned objective and being able to target it that objective from that panel would be an enormous boost to the turn around time on acknowledging orders. It only takes one person spamming 'need a pickup' to erase your command history and that shouldn't happen when it's an order from the commander.
ideally it would produce an overlay on the mini map to show the route to the objective (from there the player should be able to determine the closes base and if it's faster to fly or teleport.

Autopilot buffs aren't really that important considering that you can just ask any questions on team chat; even if the comm's too busy to clarify, one of the half-dozen people who got the same mission and DID understand it will clear up any misunderstandings. The only time chat's ever led me wrong is when a backseat comm disagrees with the comm and instead of actually dealing with it they just keep giving their own orders and ignoring each other. Only time I'm not actively reading chat is when I'm busy dogfighting, and there's typically time to catch up while I'm traveling afterward.

Your commander always wants you to probe, always wants you to defend miners, and always wants you to attack miners. Anything else will be so urgent that you should instantly figure it out, such as if there's a bomber sighted in a sector next to a base, you should probably D that base, or the Com will repeat himself many times telling you what to do, as will many other players.Mryddlin wrote:QUOTE (Mryddlin @ Dec 26 2009, 05:50 PM) I agree, learning the basics of the game isn't that hard, but it is a PITA to stay on top of a fast moving game. Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

Thanks for the work and of course a communication buff would be helpful to new commanders. Jimen is just being his grouchy self
When you first start to command it's trying to take a drink from a fire hose so anything that lowers the amount of things you need to remember and do would make the game more enjoyable to command. One thing I think you are off base on is:
"Everyone wants to win in this game but not everyone can, someone always has to lose and if I can give a chance for a newbie comm to get some experience, all the better."
The idea that you are going to find 30 people to repeatedily play games of Allegiance over and over at the level of the family picnic softball game (you know the ones, where the four year olds play first base and your aunt takes 34 swings to hit the ball) over and over especially on the internet is wishful thinking. The games are frustrating and boring just like the softball game and no one cares about you or has great grandma *insert BV joke about Julie Childs video here* smiling senile like from the side line polishing her Harley.
I know they are having fun learning the game but mother $#@!er it's an irritating mess for everyone else tp play in, especially if you fly for that commander. Other then a small uptick in karma points for making someone happy Im not getting much out of it. Now if you fly for the learner against a real commander, your Allegiance social service *cue the Deliverency theme music* ends up with someone like Brood telling you what a pretty mouth you have.
So you need to put two learners in the command chair AND get the game to start AND them not being so bad they get mutinied within 10 minutes. This is the internets after all
Back in the days of a bigger community being a commander wasn't like being the equivalent of an NFL QB like it is today. Just someone who knew the patterns of investment for a decent game. It's the endless problem of a community big enough to just support one big game most of the time. You need to keep things competitive and grow your next round of commanders.

The one thing Mry is missing is some people never ever get better no matter how much they comm or how much coaching they get.
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.

OOHHH YAAAA!!!

don't get me wrong there will always be morons, it's just always irked me that the Commanders orders can be overwritten in the queue by a newbie spamming.
