I would like to think that an overall decsion will take into account the poll results but also the arguments and discussions in the topic, and there is still the ASGS poll (newbies are a key swing voter constituency)

Possible alternative to giving adv+ scouts the targeting relay would be giving it to miners and constructors. Maybe bombers/gunships too.
Might even encourage people to defend them more (heh, who am I kidding).
I just like the idea of the major ship in a particular area providing a sort of AWACS support to defenders in the vicinity. Once the enemy has destroyed the main target all the escorts lose their reticules and become a little easier to mop up.
