Just from all Ive seen, newer players should be told that this is a game with a community, and that childish antics/drama will not be tolerated. Once people get by that, they are generally well accepted, regardless of rank.

this game is very much a chess game, where the commander is the player, and everyone else is the pieces
even the pawns are useful
probing/deprobing wins games, and rescuing pods is very important
don't forget that miner d!
Never give up.
Even when all seems hopeless, don't give up.
If you keep fighting, losing is only a possibility.
If you give up, losing is a guarantee.

That's the analogy I was going for, but a noob probing isn't very helpful compared to someone who knows where to put 'em. I said we're less than pawns, 'cause we really sorta are. We're about as helpful to the chess game as the little watching over your shoulder saying, "Daddy, you can take all of his pawns with your queen now!" until Cadet 2.
