I wouldn't play alleg with a gamepad it's kinda hard I guess. BUT it's possible... even on extra hard mode, what's that you mean? well I know a certain someone (I fly with keyboard and mouse by the way) COUGHKAPCOUGH that flies like this: (I know because I've seen him) with the left hand he holds a Xbox360 controller, and I think he has the thumb on one of the sticks while he presses the upper buttons with the rest of his fingers, and on the right hand I don't remember if he uses the keyboard or mouse, I think he uses keyboard to fly regular and mouse to dogfightFreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Apr 11 2009, 04:09 PM) 1) Gamepads are useless. Don't bother. Either go joystick/keyboard (with the occasional mousing when in a turret) or go directly with mouse/keyboard. There's the occasional freak that uses a trackball, but they're like the funny uncle in everyone's family tree... we don't talk about them much.![]()

I can give specifics for what settings on the control software work for me* if you end up getting the stick.Baran wrote:QUOTE (Baran @ Apr 13 2009, 12:16 AM) Hey all

Quadratic response instead of linear is the thing to have on in Allegiance.
*Your mileage probably varies

LOL I tried first an extreme 3D pro....and now I play on saitek X52Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Apr 11 2009, 10:19 PM) I tried the Saitek X52, and sent it back. It was horrible for me. Huge range of movement, but not very precise despite that. HOTAS system didn't have enough buttons, and made it hard to use keyboard & mouse when the table was full of gigantic joystick boxes.
Logitech Force 3D Pro is what I tried next, and fell in love with. The happy relationship continues to this day. 12 buttons, twist handle, throttle and hat. Also the best software for programming and adjusting the stick I've yet seen. Great value for money too, IMO. Much cheaper than the Saitek.

+1Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Apr 14 2009, 04:10 AM) The old joystick is the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 (although other sidewinder sticks crop up fairly often too). These were the best peripherals ever made and it'd be worth a go at finding one on ebay.
I have 2 just in case one dies...my 1st one is over 8 years old now still going strong.
These are the ones where the 110Vac goes right into the base, not the type with the wall wart...
