If price is no object, I would reccommend the steel battaltion controller, get your feet involved as well and you will be able to do many things at the same time

I have a Saitek Cyborg Evo joystick, worked pretty well when I used it for Freespace 2. Should be okay for Allegiance :) Its cheap and value for money.. but not the best for sure. How about a Saitek X52?

I tried the Saitek X52, and sent it back. It was horrible for me. Huge range of movement, but not very precise despite that. HOTAS system didn't have enough buttons, and made it hard to use keyboard & mouse when the table was full of gigantic joystick boxes.

Logitech Force 3D Pro is what I tried next, and fell in love with. The happy relationship continues to this day. 12 buttons, twist handle, throttle and hat. Also the best software for programming and adjusting the stick I've yet seen. Great value for money too, IMO. Much cheaper than the Saitek.

1) Gamepads are useless. Don't bother. Either go joystick/keyboard (with the occasional mousing when in a turret) or go directly with mouse/keyboard. There's the occasional freak that uses a trackball, but they're like the funny uncle in everyone's family tree... we don't talk about them much. :P

2)The Logitech that Adept recommended seems to be the consensus "joystick to use". Second in praise only to a Microsoft model that is long out of production. Note that the Logitech that we recommend is the unit with the heavier metal base. They make one with a lighter, plastic base which you probably should avoid.

HSharp, isnt that stuff a bit hard to hide when serious-type people visit you? You know, the type you want to think about you as a normal guy :P
