Well, I think everyone had the update loop as I had it as well. What I did was do the repair/update then switched to beta mode in which case it showed that the checksum failed. It then re-downloaded the installation file and ran it. Seems to have worked too. Just don't try using texture pack files when the options window comes up. I've found that it will instantly fail launch. Well, good luck with everything!

I think the 'update loop' as people are referring it to is just asgsupdate.exe closing after about one second and relaunching asgs (old version). My problem was fixed by updating using the repair option.

Manually updating ASGSClient.exe should fix the infinite update loop problem. The exe is available in the downloads section. Other problems are being looked into...

I update my asgs manually(I did so before posting this as well, but I did it again). When I click on the new updater, it works fine, then it launches asgs. I click login and it says that an unknown error has occurred. I click ok, and close asgs when it gives me this error that says:

Unhanded exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will close immediately.

Unable to generate a temorary class [result=1]. error CS 0009: Metadata file 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\ASGSClient.exe' could not be opened --'An attempt was made to laod a program with an incorrect format.'

Under the Details button it gives me this:

Code: Select all

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
If I hit continue it just sits trying to close ASGS and nothing happens. If I hit Quit it closes ASGS. Once I reopen ASGS it launches Alleg normally and I run into the problem where I have to log into ASGS(explained in above posts).

:o
Mmmk. Looks like something's quite seriously borked with yer .NET install. Try removing all .NET Frameworks you might have installed, reboot, reinstall .NET 2.0 from a fresh download (just to be on the safe side). See if that fixes anything.

Step by step what I've done, tell me if I've missed anything:

-Uninstalled .net 2.0
-Uninstalled .net 1.0
-Downloaded 1.0
-Downloaded 2.0
-Downloaded 2.0 SP1
-Downloaded 2.0 SP2
-Installed .net 1.0
-Installed .net 2.0
-Installed 2.0 SP1
-Installed 2.0 SP2

Changes nothing, did I miss a step?

edit: I also redownloaded asgs, updated it and found what looks to be the same problem.

CODESee the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Before as well as after.

Apparently not, I dled and installed now I think it works. I don't know why or how the $#@! this all started, but I'm glad it's probably resolved (provided nothing dies again).

Many thanks to Helpline and Co.
