need advice

um i had changed my key bindings but as i have only been playing for a day or so i have been going through the tutorial and then i have been paticing in the practice arena but it only lets me use the default controls and im not confident enough to go and join in battle when im haveing such a hard time just controlling the ship should i go ahead and join in on battles or practice some more till i get comfortable flying

The work around for the training missions is while in the training missions bring up the key bindings, then accept them. This training missions use their own keybindings so that the scripts work properly (like so when she tells you to press "k" or whatever, the scripts can continue properly. Doing what I suggest causes your keybindings to overwrite the mission keybindings.

Note though you may end up getting stuck because the scripts are expecting their keybindings to be operative.

An alternative way to test your bindings is to create your own game, turn off the second team (by clicking the checkbox on the second team's name) then launch. You can fly using your bindings.

If you get you key problem sorted, don't be afraid of joining the main game. You'll learn much more there than on the newbie server. Ignore the people that are hostile to newbies, and ask questions. Introduce yourself to people. Admit to being a newbie. Many will help you.

Also, read the academy.

All new players are also welcome to join the 'Cadets' course. CDT will train you in many of the skills required to succeed in Allegiance.

The Newbie server is there for the purpose of learning controls, and the first steps on how to play the game. If it's empty you can just come in to main game, many novices are as useful as a newbie learning controls for the first time anyway, so people usually don't mind. And you will learn how to play the game, in time.

Bah, dive on in with both feet! Fly around in your garrison sector and get a feel for flying, maybe pop through an aleph, try equipping a nanite (reading academy to find out what that is makes you an uber newb, no joke) and maybe following a miner/constructor (again, reading academy makes you an uber newb, or hell just ask) and try hitting it with your nanite at the right times. You have a handy-dandy (0) next to your name that screams for the entire community, "I'm going to be useless!" It's not a bad thing, we all started that way. I learned to fly by probing. I read the academy's piece on probing, and then practiced thrusting/other things I tried to do with my controls while dropping probes for my commander. I practiced circle-boosting while doing galv runs and naning miners/cons/bombers.

Don't use the keyboard. Use the mouse. Activate virtual joystick and fly with that. Trust me, I used to suck at fighting and rely on missiles (which were usually countered easily by vets and were basically totally ineffective) until I turned on Virtual Joystick. Now Dogfights and Turret Gunning are my specialities, and my favourite ship is the Interceptor.

Personally, I think you should activate the virtual joystick, get used to it (and by that I mean not spin out, I don't mean become perfect), read about Probing and Nanning, and do that until you have a basic grasp of the game. Don't expect to win many fights at first. I still have ppl I get owned by, but on the flip side I have pwned a couple of 15's. You'll have lost the 0 and the newbieness before you know it.

Well, your key positions are all personal preference. You should really go play on the main server though. It will be hard and confusing at first, but you will learn what goes on in the game and what you should be doing. Good luck.

No offense MicoolTNT but while flying with a mouse ( or joystick ) vs using the arrows key is solid advice the clue boat has left port without you. By keybindings we mean all of the keys one must use in game including the thrusters which are critical to not being dead meat against even someone of my limited skills. I noticed you mentioned you were already full of "new" advice to give us. While I will grant you new blood can and does bring in new things occasionally, and forum join date is not the same as when you started my advice is to kind of lay back and let others who have played longer answer the questions if you really only have been playing for a bit. It seems as if Im being harsh but rather I can see your enthuastic and Id like to see you stay vs being flamed to death by the crustier elements of this forum.

A) just cause someone has a 15 doesn't mean they know how to fly an int. Look at me, I had my 15 well before I could hope to pod an unturreted bbr. I regularly get podded by newbies just to keep my pod-ridin' skills sharp!
You won't lose your 0 by mindlessly dming. In fact, the more people on your team fly ints and dogfight, the less likely you are to have your rank rise. True story! You want to gain rank? I made a post about it before, but I'll say it again: 1) stack, 2) nan bbrs, 3) probe, 4) nan miners, 5) (and only if you're feeling especially tricky) nan someone's int.
C) And with that you'll transcend into voobness. I promise. Just look what happened to me!

If so, then why the hell is it, that each time I fly the scout whole game my team loses?
