It boggles my mind but there are now usually two games going on in non-newbie servers. Interestingly enough, one of them has less people AFK and more people playing. At times, it degenerates into noob furballs.

It's a sign that we have more players and allows more commanders to command and gain experience, however, I think that games should consolidate into one if both servers have around 10 pilots.

Your thoughts on this?

When I was learning the basics of commanding, I didn't like commanding a team larger than 5.

Ever noticed how easy it is to set up a game these days? And how the variety of server choices/core flavors has increased? Since you have been here since February 2004 you must have noticed some things have changed?

Maybe that answers your question to some extent?

Also, let people do what they want. During prime time there is always one serv with the majority of the community on it. So where is the problem or the dilemma? I wished there was a way of changing the core with GC as occasionaly I would like to play a game of dn 4.5 or God. This however is a completely different story.

No offence meant here, but maybe your status bar explains it all: "Master of Overcomplication".

My thoughts on what?

Two non-newb games going? Great.

Sometimes the "Side game" has more active players? ... so what?

Side games full of newbs? Meh. They gotta be somewhere.

It's a sign that we have more players? No - really? Wow. Also, this just in: Grass is green.

Consolidating players? Isn't going to happen.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Actually I heard someone saying something along the lines of "I hate those side games" and was wondering if more people thought that.

@DW: I played, stopped, and now play once again. I'm probably more of a forum whore than anything.

Zecro, think of it this way:

Side games are good for newbies to learn on. Most of the time there's very few people on the newbie servers, and with the upper level being set to (4) for them, some people might want to be in a side game where they are more appreciated.

Add to it that sometimes people are training with friends. Or maybe the comms in the main game aren't ones they'll fly for, so they make a side game.

With the AFK thing, I take it you mean the NOAT ppl? There's a few reasons for that. They've played a couple of games and are taking a break, but don't want to log off. Dinner's ready, they went to eat. They had to take a power dump. The wife is horny, and so are they. Or they're lurking to see if anybody makes nasty comments about them. Take your pick. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i personally like side games (on occasion)..
its a different type of game play in the small game...

nice to switch it up sometimes

and sometimes its a vet vs an ubernoob commander on the main server... and the vets team is already stacked /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Sidegames are a nice alternative to the 30 vs 30 main game lagfests. Personally I like sidegames keeping the numbers down in the main game where you can have a nice 10 vs 10 or 15 vs 15 game.

Plus it is somewhere to go if you don't feel like flying the main game.
