beta/test version of the community core
The CC office will do what it needs to when the time comes.....if we need to test out a controversial change, we might make an official beta. If anyone desires to test out an idea, they should feel free to modify the CC and conduct unofficial testing. The CC is NOT the place for novel, untested ideas, but we will incorporate new ideas from other cores/test cores as seen fit.

that sounds reasonable /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
could people make their own test cores if they have an idea or it's getting talked about here and submit them to the CC team and they can give it a stamp of approval and have it named as an official CC beta?
no, i'm not asking this in relation to my test core, i'm keeping that as my own project which will be finished and released fully after my exams.
who are the CC zone staff anyway? it's not listed on the wiki.

I disagree. it is very difficult to get people playing non-standard cores, let alone "test" cores.Ramaglor wrote:QUOTE (Ramaglor @ May 9 2008, 07:34 PM) The CC office will do what it needs to when the time comes.....if we need to test out a controversial change, we might make an official beta. test cores have a purpose, and im not saying lump all the crazy ideas into the beta CC, but having a continuous beta CC will hugely increase the willingness of the community to try out new changes, and will mean that new and revolutionary idea won't get ignored, progress by evolution only leads to crap results unless your willing to wait a decade or 2, and even then some things arn't possible.
point is, people won't let you put revolutionary things in the main core, because they might not work. But if you have no standard way (and test cores don't count as standard) to test revolutionary ideas, then they will never make it to general usage, no matter how good they are.

Look, I really don't want to be too blunt, but at this current stage, we are working with a current core and attempting to obtain balance. The community Core will not be doing anything outlandish or crazy and the builds will be release builds not beta. Perhaps in the future once we have established a working balanced core(which the CC team are happy with) then we will go ahead with working on a beta core.Finn Bryant wrote:QUOTE (Finn Bryant @ May 10 2008, 09:59 PM) Stuff
As is stands the current short term goals are.
1. Get first release out
2. Fix any issues that may arise.
3. Discuss planning for new factions
3.1 - perhaps release and updated version of the c-core.
4. Work on CC(Large Edition)
Long term goals well, we dont have many planned as yet.
Infact short term goal 4 is more of a long term goal. I just know for a fact it is something we will be working on.

So....... Seriously, not to piss anyone off or something but just so we get this out in the open and cleared up :
- Will this be a community core in which the developers listen to the community (and I mean if we put up a poll and 75% says something sucks will it get fixed within say 4 weeks?) or will this be another ego-trip by committee (instead of a egotrip by 1 person).
- Will developers push their own ideas into a core without discussing/polling it with the community or will they explain/poll/discuss changes with the community?
- Will developers pull a Noir on us and go "it ain't broken cause 50% of the time this faction loses" or will they listen to vet pilots and comms?
If we call this a community core then it would be best to involve the community otherwise we might as well call it DN2 or something right? /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Again this is just to clear up some confusion which I think has arisen over how this whole core thing is gonna be organized. Can anyone in the current CC circle clear this up for us, thanks /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Let me clear a few things up for you then grim_reaper.Grim_Reaper_4u wrote:QUOTE (Grim_Reaper_4u @ May 11 2008, 04:33 PM) So....... Seriously, not to piss anyone off or something but just so we get this out in the open and cleared up :

The community core is a community influenced core. It is ran by Aarmstrong with a team of six others including myself. The community core team will run polls on very important matters regarding core balance. But the community core team cannot be expected to poll every single little change going into the core, to do so would make the core a waste of time as it would take so much time in administration we would be in a worse state than DN is as far as release times go. Faction stats most likely wont be used in balancing the core, as i said in a previous thread (you posted in grim) the community core will rely heavily on the feedback we get about the releases and we will try our best to implement the changes into the core to resolve and rebalance any issues that arise. To be this prejudice at the very start of this grim and saying that we have not included the community in the core is pretty damn harsh. Considering we have been waiting for feedback on what core we can use as a base amungst other things, also the fact the cc is a new project we are still setting up. Please dont think that me saying "we dont need a beta core at this time" is me saying, "we are not interested in the communitys feedback" i was just stating that yes it is probably something we can look at when we start adding new stuff to the core, but we want a balanced platform to build all the future releases on. One thing at a time easy does it.
I hope the above clears up some of your reservations.

perhaps i should have made a note in my first post explaining it wasn't a demand that a beta core should be made right away, and it was just seeing if people thought it was a good idea and a good way to test changes that could be used in future.apochboi wrote:QUOTE (apochboi @ May 11 2008, 06:15 PM) we can look at when we start adding new stuff to the core, but we want a balanced platform to build all the future releases on. Tnx Apo that's all i wanted to know. Btw I didn't post this because of the beta-core discussion and I'm not being critical of the process so far. It just wasn't clear to me (and probably a lot of others) how the whole CC process was being structured.apochboi wrote:QUOTE (apochboi @ May 11 2008, 07:15 PM) Let me clear a few things up for you then grim_reaper.
thanks for clearing it up and keep up the good work /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
