people have been talking about having two versions of the community core.

one main version, and one beta/test version where more radical changes are tried out to see if they work / people like them.

is it a good idea?

discuss.

i personally like the idea since you can some times only know how well something works if you try it, and i tend to take a try it and see approach to things anyway /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

explanation of the poll:
vote yes if you like this idea
vote no if you don' like this idea
vote maybe if you're too lazy to read the thread and come to a proper decision.

oh come on, it was only the second one, IB did about 50 before anyone complained. i wasn't even planning on putting a poll in, but then decided to as an after thought because it would be simple after people complained about the last one.

Does there need to be a poll for this? Surely someone who want to test a radical revision of the CC can modify it and post it up without needing an official beta version?

I'd also like to highlight the fact that we will be working on a large game version of the community core. Do we really need to release a specific beta core for all peoples off the wall ideas. No we don't. If you want to try something off the wall. Do it yourself.

I did.

but people have been suggesting in a few threads that there should be a beta version of the community core to test things like halving int's fuel etc. i decided to let peole discuss that idea in a different thread instead of having it spread over a few threads.

This isn't for ALL of the stupid ideas - This would be for the ideas that could work but that the community might not like - IE, some int changes, or the alternate ships. It would be as balanced as possible, but wouldn't be official CC version. It would allow people to test the things that may or may not be agreeable to the general public.

This doesn't need to be made by the CC devs, though, although perhaps it could be a sub-group.

As I imagine there will be no usage issues over the CC as a base. I suppose you or anyone else is free to make whatever modifications they like in a seperate core. If those changes get play time and comments then they may find themselves in the CC.

No need to poll I don't think, just do (in the same way as you Cap Core MadP). The CC will benefit from the inclusion or exclusion of ideas as a result.

Do we really want 12 diffent version of peoples ideas running around on auto-update (if we can get TE crazy enough to put all of them on AU)? If you need to manually download a core on the forums then you can be 100% sure that it will not get any playtime, it's hard enough for the alternative cores that are on AU let alone if you want to try cores that aren't on AU.

1 Beta CC that is used to test more "controversial" changes won't hurt anyone, it's a good idea.

Stop making more work. You want it, you do it.
