If thats the case, then maybe someone 'in the know' should update the wiki page "Which ports does Allegiance use?".

Convoluted and confusing help systems are not gonna help bring in new blood to the game...
Im in a clan on a game called Savage (very similar setup to this one e.g a leader and teams, but fantasy based.) i would like the clan to incorperate this game into our sphere of influence, but im not ready to embarass myself by reccomending a game which requires, potential downgrading of drivers, changing of firewalls AND out of date help files...

dont get me wrong, im not trying to offend anyone. i just consider mine to be a fairly good rig, well tweaked to my needs as most people have theirs, its not nice to have to reconfigure for a single game, and to be left with questions because the knowledge base is inacurate =(

that being said, i have made all the needed downgrades to my machine and am progressing well with learning the game. Its WELL worth the inconvenience, its just some people that might be great players may not have the patience to go through it.

This information is irrelevant to 99.9% of players. Unless you are behind a Cisco router and have no idea how to config it (fat chance), Allegiance will take care of it's own ports. I will update that page when I have a spare hour, for order's sake.

Blame nVidia for breaking their drivers. Just to clarify: our dev team is working on updating the renderer engine to DX9, which should fix the nVidia issue.
Fiddling with firewalls is inevitable. Deal with it if you want to play any online game that is 8 years old.
In case you haven't noticed, this is a free game. That means, that none of the guys running this place are paid to do so. That includes Helpline staff. If you look at the Groups page for this forum, you might notice, that there are only eight people running Helpline, and we manage to solve dozens of players problems weekly. Now, given that all of us have jobs, some study also, we simply don't have the time to keep the Wiki pages up to date. They are updated whenever someone feels like spending additional hours on editing texts, Cut us some slack, k?

This game is well worth buying a 5 year old rig off e-bay, just to play it /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

You are ecpieriencing exceptionally many issues. Most people just install and play.
Also, if I can recommend you teh 174.74 nVidia drivers. I have 8600 GS and they work good enough for me (and i can play other games). I get steady 60fps at 1280x800 res. I meddled with settings for Alleg a bit to take the fps as high as possible (and avoid it dropping when much is going on). Drop me a PM if you want those. Leaving this open, so you can discuss your gfx.

Thanks Ogorass, your very patient, i expected a STFU NooB /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
i have the 174 drivers and 16x e.t.c i get no problem with FPS at all. my problem is screen freeze (80%) Complete system freeze (15%) and Booted back to windows, with an unfixable 640x480@ 256color [cold start required] (5%).

if most people dont have issue, i wonder if there is a cuminative issue with high ver drivers added to 64bit and or dual/core?
just a shot in the dark...

would be nice to hear if anone on a single core 32 bit cpu using 16x 17x drivers is running bad.

STFU, Noob! (we aim to please /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />)

Just kidding, of course. I don't have any experience with video issues, but this thread might have some relevance to you.

Me? nope, not a single one of my machines run overclocked, ever!

im not a fan of OC, the manufac's should give better rankings to chips that can be 'overclocked stabily' I.e if it can DO 6Ghz then say it on the label, dont call it a 5.3 but great for overclocking, lol....i cant sell that promise to my customers /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Here they are:

Max amount of pre-rendered frams: 5
Multi-thread optilamlizations: off
Tripple buffering: on
Multi-screen acceleraion: single screen
Antialiasing-mode: off

The rest are defaults. Note that those option names are my translation from Polish, so they might sound a bit different in English version. Just look for something to that effect. Also, setting antialiasing mode to off swithces off about 4 other antialiasing options. Hope that helps.

Thanks pal, ill check that out later..i ran 174 erlier with everything off or lowest and it played well and for a long time but died in the usual manner after about an hour =/

if one of your noted settings fixes it for me me may have the beginings of a workable generic solution.

Good news I bare: check out the new DX9 Alpha build of Allegiance. It works fine (apart from a couple of bugs, that are small enough not to affect gameplay) for me, giving a nice steady 200FPS on maxed out settings (1680x1050 @ 32bit, 4x AA, HiRes textures and all other goodies on). You should get an ASGS broadcast message when you login, there's a link to a thread with instructions.
