I like discussions about different tactical scenarios. One came up this afternoon that I thought worth discussing:

Team A (Dreg) has a miner in the same sector as a refinery and a tech base. Also in the sector are a half-dozen heavy ints from team B (IC) that have just seen the miner, and are about 3k away. The miner is roughly 2/2.5k away from both the ref and the techbase. One player sends the miner to the ref, another changes the order and sends it to the techbase (the comm didn't get involved, at least not that I saw). Arguing ensued: one player arguing that the miner was probably going to die anyway and should at least offload, the other player arguing that sending it to the techbase increased its chances of survival. Who is right?

In this case, the miner got sent to the ref to offload and still managed (through luck and excellent defense/nanning) to survive.

My opinion is that neither strategy is going to be the "best" one 100% of the time. But what factors do you think matter most in making that decision? What would you have done in this scenario, as well as similar ones?

The amount of nans waiting to rescue the miner and the distance needed to travel is the deciding factors, probably in that order.

Nobody in sector? To the ref.

Anyone in sector? Depends on who, and what they're flying.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

I would think it depends on the 2 people who are sending the miner. Are they in the sector? YES.Are they in scouts? probly no,t but they can tie up the heavy ints until hopefully help comes. By sending it to the base,nan/fig help is closer and you may save miner. Since the miner unloads only at the ref and not tech the miner can offload when it is safe. Sending it to the ref may make you 3k or so (I assume its not full) but you have a better chance to save the 4k the miner cost plus its load. You dont say if the ref is inline with the tech or off to the side. I say dead miner 100% if it goes to the ref even if it offloads. 50/50 if you send it to tech. Since there is no garuentee it wll make it to the ref anyway.

Send it to the SUP /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

To the ref if the miner is full, or even half way. Techbase if hasn't mined alot. At least get your money first. Simple.

If I was the commander and the miner was full, I'd send it to the ref. The team can fly over to the miner if it's only 2-something-k away, admitedly it's easier to save a miner at the green door, but I'm not about to waste 11290 creds (or so) when I can lose 4000 instead on a dreg miner.

I think Crono meant that if the miner is full, he wants to send it to the ref and make sure he gets the He3 in the miner (11290 creds). Miner is more likely to die away from the tech base, but the certainty of getting 11k offsets that additional risk.

Hopefully I got it right.
