Can someone please explain why the mechanism to auto-balance teams isn't used?

If the auto-balancing mechnaism in the game isn't good, why not use a standard arrangement for friendly sports games: two team leaders take turns picking people for their teams? The only trick would be to deal with people who quit or join mid-game; but I'm sure with a little thought some reasonable rule can be agreed.

As a newbie, I was amazed at the amount of bitching and blaming each other for stacking that I've seen in just 3 days of playing. So why not fix it with some rules?..

Actually I would have pointed him at:

So admins ban stackers now?

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Believe it or not Shik it has be done. It has been attempted. People want to play for known good commanders which they are few are far between. As you will learn Reputation is EVERYTHING in this game. Once a commander shows he can hang in the main server his rep grows and 2 good coms will draw good players to each. And that will equal a good game. But commanding is HARD and challenging even though IMO 90% of winning at this game is the team. If the com isnt a complete idoit he will bet a good com if he has the better pilots and they have better teamwork. People also want to play with their friends no agianst them im most cases although podding you buddy is fun. But playing with a group of players you know and trust is more fun then playing with people who you dont know.
And AutoBal works only if you dont have alot of low ranks jumping in. a 20 com and 7 10's could go vs 10 com and 10 5's and 3 10's b4 anyone could join the 20 becuase the ELO would have to be 90 vs 90 and 14vs8 would not be a fun game even though the odds are the 20 com would win

So I suggest you use the search bar on these forums to search for the word STACKING and read up on it. I think these forums go back to 2004 if you set it up to search that far back as opposed to only 90 days. And my dear friend you will learn this has been a problem since April of 2000 /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Hah! I bear a Cloak of Rickroll Resistance +5 (AKA Firefox flashblock extension).

Edit: Hmm, it's been a while since I've heard the song, though. I wonder if it's as perniciously catchy as I remember. *click*

ShikareeX,

I'll give you an actual answer because I Care.

Stacking has always been a problem in Allegiance. There are several proposals for solutions (including that people just stop acting like dicks). Requiring autobalance is one of the less popular suggestions. Some reasons for its lack of popularity are weak (wah! I can't fly with my girlfriend now), and others are justified (under the current autobalance, you can have teams that are 23 vs 13).

The best thing that you can do about stacking is the following

1) Don't just hop right on a team.
2) Look at the teams, decide which one is stronger.
3) Join the stronger team.

Chances are that as a newbie, you'll be helping to even the game MORE by joining the stronger team. As a bonus, you'll fly with stronger pilots and learn the game faster.

Thanks for the replies and PM's.

I see I'm gonna have to play a lot more before I can contribute anything to the discussion /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
