Stack versus anonymity
No, your better then the average voob. I'll take you on TS over a person with the same skill level, and not on TS. This way I can yell at you on TS to pay attention more.

You miss the point. The usual TS stacking is debatable. I'm not discussing that here. Maybe you didn't understand the context of my post, so I'll make it crystal clear.guitarism wrote:QUOTE (guitarism @ Apr 1 2008, 11:12 PM) Whats wrong with people who are on TS playing together?
Did you ever think that they are "good" players BECAUSE they are on TS? Just maybe...
There was an April Fool's joke today that anonymized all the callsigns. Not only that, there were duplicate callsigns often. This resulted in chaos in the games: nobody knew who was commanding, nobody could tell who to hand out a bomber to, there was no way to measure skill, and commanders even booted themselves. An interesting experiment in any case.
Announcing the identity of a commander in allchat was to be expected. Hard to verify of course.
The problem was that some people on TS decided that they would all get on one team. By doing this, they essentially nullified many of those issues. Those 9 players (could have) formed an effective unit within the larger team, somewhat like the PK sub-chan in the last SG. Not only that, most of the other teams were none the wiser.
Basically they decided to improve their own enjoyment at the detriment of everyone flying against them and hoping for a fair fight.

How is this any different from when we have normal callsigns is my thing. Maybe I'm just a lil too drunk to see how this changes from a normal game day. When it comes to players, I'll always take people on TS before those not, because it's a faster way to communicate, and they are the wiser for it.
The fact that there were "randomized" callsigns means nothing in the long run in this case, because TS usually plays together anyhow. The fact that people didn't know about it, so couldn't whine about the stack, just means they couldn't whine about the stack.
Whats funny is, I thought the games were actually MORE even with the randomized callsigns, because it relied upon you as a player showing in game that you were competent, not relying upon your name for it's staying power.

Comparing teams who have no clue who they're playing with vs. a team that colludes on TS and self identifies so they know who they're flying with is like comparing apples and howiitzers. You're insane if you think it offers a fair game. The non-TS team has know idea who they're flying with and who is reliable not to mention comm gets dropped on a newbie accidentally. Not to mention the stacking aspect.
WAKE THE $#@! UP
Oh and someone move this into Rants.

I have a brilliant plan.
Get on Teamspeak and stop sucking!
If we all joined up on TS and bought a microphone for the 1.50 it costs maybe the level of play would increase!!!
No matter what, I am glad today is over. Being forced to boot everyone on the team with the same name gets quite annoying. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

no its an enhancer though.Mr. Kltplzyxm wrote:QUOTE (Mr. Kltplzyxm @ Apr 1 2008, 09:47 PM) Last I checked, TS is not a substitute for skill nor competent teamwork. TS affords better coordination but not always. Ask Grav, he knows.
By your logic, a team of newbies on TS would beat a team of voobs who know how to nan and whore somewhat.
Talking is more efficient and effective than typing.

Newbies don't know the game. Voobs do, sorta.
I believe a team of voobs, all on TS, all talking (like Spawn's skill level or so) would beat a team of pug vets without TS. Simple.
TS may not be a substitute for skill, but it becomes a vital part of competent team work, if everyone hears every word instantly, without typing.
