I think one of our best bets for model format, as far as ease of use goes, is .3ds because it supports models as well as animations using bones.

Same if you already have a .obj or a .3ds, but less complicated, as you just convert them to .dts in Milkshape. The point is that Torque (as far as I know) will only accept .dts.
There's a 30 day trial of Milkshape at www.download.com, but I wouldn't advise you to blow up the 30 days. Yet.
