Can you unpack that a bit?ogorass wrote:QUOTE (ogorass @ Dec 7 2007, 05:20 AM) It has been mentioned that (by Shiz IIRC) that ACS was made public last year and that it failed miserably.
Was this an attempt to replace ACS by a public, self-study course? No one on this thread has suggested replacing the mentorship aspect of ACS. We'd just like it to be a bit more university. You can always buy the textbook, even if it's not a total substitute for the homework, tests, individual instruction, and formal course credit. It seems to me, based on what's been released, that many have grossly underestimated just how interesting, informative, and useful this material actually is to the general population.
If this has in fact already been tried -- if ACS has been conducted with all its material "out in the open" -- then can you explain what "failed miserably" about it? Did incoming rates plunge? Was the mentorship less effective as a result?
No, this was one of the aforementioned previous attempts at ACS.
You guys want all the ACS material public? Well, here's a protip: it is. Everything in ACS was written by the commanders who are around today, and what was written by those who arn't is easily regurgitated by everyone else. You want that info, you need only ask the question. Get on teamspeak, talk about commanding strategy with the goons on there. Get on and chat with them, don't be obnoxious about it, and you'll get all the info you could ever need and more.

But I don't think that approach scales. There's a lot of non-vets, and every one has a lot of questions. Sometimes I don't even know the right questions to ask. Taken to the extreme, we shouldn't have ANY written material on Allegiance, people should just learn it from vets by osmosis.
The material's already written down. It's no skin off anyone's back to make it public. It has, in my view, more upside than downside. So why isn't it done?

n.b. I may not see a forum post replied to me or a pm sent to me for weeks and weeks...
cashto: I refer you to this thread. In it's entirety. Where we've already answered that question many times.
Here's my take on it though- in order to teach people to command we need to get them to command frequently and get them to listen to us while they do it- access to the written materials provides a carrot.

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
