We do that so the tourists don't find the out of way places where the real fun is. By chance you weren't the couple in Oconto yesterday who took a wrong turn and were 180 miles on the wrong side of the bay were you? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> (141/41/I43) Looking for the car ferry in Manitowoc?

Negative. We were in Charlevoix for my grandfather's memorial service, drove down to Grand Rapids to meet up with some of my squaddies, then over to Muskegon for the Lake Express. Cross the lake, get to Milwaukee and drive as quickly as possible out of the state to visit another squaddie in Minnesota. Didn't get lost at all, just annoyed. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Sounds like a back-road to me /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />. Oh and we're having a heat wave right now . . . I HATE this weather /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />.Terralthra wrote:QUOTE (Terralthra @ Jul 9 2007, 11:38 AM) My fiancée and I just drove through Wisconsin, and it was terrible. 90+ degrees, 70% humidity, it was like driving through a sauna. When we stopped for gas, our glasses fogged up just from getting out of the car. The contrast between northwest Michigan and Wisconsin was like heaven and hell, and compared to where we live, Michigan wasn't exactly pleasant.
And what the hell is up with your freeways here? Are you farmers that friggin' desperate for federal transportation dollars that you make EVERYTHING a freeway? Not satisfied with a 2-lane road with STOP SIGNS being labeled as a freeway, the only decent freeway we were actually on for the drive was LABELED AS THREE FREEWAYS. WTF mate? Yeah, sure, if you have two freeways that merge for a mile or two, then separate again, keep the labels on both of them...but we drove for over TWO HUNDRED MILES on this mostly 2, occasionally 3 lane freeway while it was labeled as three freeways.
And not just that, but it was a crappy freeway! You'd think if you guys are going to fleece the federal government by calling one freeway three different numbers (and probably collecting triple funds for it by claiming each has separate lane-miles), you should at least be able to maintain the damn thing. I should not have to swerve around potholes and get bounced around by huge lines of tar on something called a 'freeway.' Ever. What do you do with your freeway budget (other than buy $#@!tons of extra signage)?
No wonder the coastal states get less money back from the fed than they give, while the inland states get back more than they give.
Try driving through a nice rural city with some nice, quiet forests. Watch out for the deer!!!!!!!!!
I think yer getting highways and interstates confused.Terralthra wrote:QUOTE (Terralthra @ Jul 10 2007, 02:38 AM) And what the hell is up with your freeways here? maybe all those interstates are merged cause they cant go over the lake? just maybe.. they all go around lake Michigan.
Our roads are maintained by our taxes (hence why we have no tollways).
Lastly if you drove through milwaukee.. yer right the freeway system is hosed at the moment with all the (needed)construction so I have to concede that.

I believe there was a bridge that was close to collapsing so its kind of screwy right now since they're fixing it.

I suggest you check the routes of I-39, I-90, and I-94. They are all the same freeway for over 50 miles, and 90 and 94 are the same freeway for nearly 200.Cadridorn wrote:QUOTE (Cadridorn @ Jul 11 2007, 03:13 AM) I think yer getting highways and interstates confused.

And California freeways are also tax-maintained, not toll roads. The difference is that ours aren't full of potholes and cracks everywhere. If your excuse is that the interstate(s) are 'backroads'....

Good Idea to use the FOOT. Your foot doesn't need sex anyway.Romeo_ wrote:QUOTE (Romeo_ @ Jul 3 2007, 12:38 PM) lol, seriously, my girls is pretty regulated. Do I dominate her? No, of course not. I pick my spots. But once my foot goes down and the foot has spoken.....she generally doesnt challenge me. Like I said, I pick my spots to impose any authority. She gets her way, plenty often too tho. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

And how many CA highways are subject to the deep-freeze/thaw cycles and sand/salt combos that WI highways need be subject to? You warm-weather guys....Terralthra wrote:QUOTE (Terralthra @ Jul 10 2007, 04:04 PM) And California freeways are also tax-maintained, not toll roads.
