<laugh>

When I was a newb, the vets asked, demanded, begged that I go play on the newbie server and leave them alone. The few games I actually played on the NS were very much like the description above. I didn't know how to do better, of course, but I felt that this wasn't right.

Oh, and then there was one really good game when two vets (presumably @allegs) assumed command. Can't recall the names... Ang and Romeo, maybe? Anyway, they made us play a real game, that (basically) was very much like any other pickup game. Things happened much slower, of course, but it was the right things in the right order. Man, we even had actual proper bombruns, with nans and @#(!...

It actually was fun and I learned a lot during that game. I hope something like this still happens from time to time.

When I joined (6-7 month ago?), newbie server only have games of 3 vs. 3 going if it's good time. I went to read the whole academy before even creat my callsign, and went to trainning misson. I was afraid of main server or server with more than 10 people back then. So newbie server first. Some guy managed to give me command the first game i joined and I was like "whoa, what does this do? what's that?...". Eventually I got it figured out and actually won that game (given the opposite command was a (4) but have absolutly no idea what to do. I remember going myself in a bomber to his home only to find 5 tech con and 2 op con just waiting there /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Needless to say, I played a lot in the first few days, just to get a hang of things. Because of lack of big games, I never really moved up in rank. After 1 to 2 month Newbie server was really populated like nowdays and I began to get a feeling of owning everyone on there. Most of the time I command, or fly the @cadet ship. Sometimes I goto a second server that have some vets on and play there, back when it only have about 15 people. During that time, I managed to get back to (0) 4 times and never made it up to inter after 3 month of gameplay. Some of you might remember that. I try to play on big servers but i can never get accepted as a (0). Nobody trust me to do anything.

My life was changed totally after I graduate from Cadet and got top mark. People began to accept me into servers, but I still generally avoid main server. At one time, I was flying in the 2nd server with 20 people or so, it was right before the Sunday SG time. BV asked me to observer the ACE vs. GB game. ACE had too many players and already a observer (Mikhail before he joined). I was unable to watch that one. But anyway I got invitation 2 days after that ( I never thought i would, from the beginning of visit to this community I dreamed of being a member of squads, and look into the squad roster. At that time I wanted to be in Wildcard for some reason, especially after hearing their reputation.) So I joined and SG against BS was the week after.

There I flow my third large scale game, and honestly I was really confused by all the teamwork that's showing, and the high skill level of play. I just did Con/Miner D that game, the eaisest job I can find, and observed as much as I can from F3 and try to get better. A funny note is that I was flying under Angela@ACE(0), and a lot of people asked if I'm a returning vet or not, to be a squaded (0).

I began to fly in main server after that, and try to get better in there. Learned a lot since then.

Interesting thing to note, I had my (0) for 4 monthes ever since I joined, and I played about 70 games that counted with that (0). Wasn't until HELO come out I lost my newbie tag.

Most embarrasing moment? First time in SB (while in cadet), a big tp2 drop in main server, about 12 SB ripped in. I managed to take out my shield and missle, but not familiar with control from F3. Was cloaked and had 22 sig, but managed to ram straight into a scout without it eyeing me. Was under my hider but quite a few people said "good job, ran straight into a scout". /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

ok this is longer than i meant it to be but It's a whole story /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

When I was a noob (more so than I am now), I liked to use quickfires. ALOT. I always wondered why things wouldn't die.

the more quickfires you fire, the scan range of refinery get's better, because of the he3 yield /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

my story is almost like angela´s. well, it´s not like her story at all.

so, one day, i find myself bored to hell, googling for a new online game to play and BAM, i find alleg.

so, i download the game, download the framework 1.1, and finally got to play after upgrading random stuff.
while this things were downloading, i watched some gameplay videos (i didn´t get a single thing), started reading the crash course, and signed up for cadet.

first game i enter, i really cannot remember right now. the thing i remember is i got to read most of flight controls and that game was on the main server. i never like to fly on newbie´s, because most of maneuvers and actual play is not found there. so i joined the main game, entered a random side (didn´t know that factions even existed), and started flying in circles. After flying following people and the eventual instant killing i recieved from vets, i managed to pull my foot out of my mouth and actually started paying attention at whatever was happening. i rememer the second day i played, at some point i went straight into theserb´s gs and podded him. he had 0 kb and i still pked him. after that he told me to avoid doing that, because it didn´t give you any kill or sth like that.

after a month or so of playing, i somehow manage to get on main server comm´s chair (to this point i had read all the academy -in fact, the first week i read it all-), and guess against who....

yes! HiderNick_1 !!! that was the one!. There´s no need to even try to justify my loss here, so move along. i was IC and he was giga(i think he was giga. i know i was ic). Although i did payed attention to other commanders and what they did, where they sent ops and that, i didn´t know how to manage miners! well, i managed to do a miserable (but damn good for a $#@!ing 0 on commseat) opening, with an op on a chokepoint (the map was star i think), built an exp, and almost got to heavy ints even! after this game, many people started to help me (dreamwalker, shizoku, spidey, terralthra, grav, parcival, whorez, etc -i don´t want to forget anyone!!-), and now i´m here!.

i still suck at everything, i´m your regular voob, further enhanced by his crappy latency and connection stability (which have prevented me from playing this week). I´ll be good some day.

and Mordechaj: the refineries don´t get more attack range from their minning speed, because refineries don´t attack! n00b!! the things that give you more attack range on refineries are skycap2 on the garrison and heavy scouts, once you mined enough sectors to build 3 techbases and control half of the map

Well my newbie experiance was minimal i kinda went strait to low lvl voob and sat there for a long time.

I was coached by Avatar_Squadron and Xetar (voobs themselvs who hadnt plaed in say 2 years, there getting back into the swing of things)

So i knew the basics what cons where how to build them miners bring in money and vaugly how to use each ship, the rest i leanred probly strait from BV when he was around alot more and i was quite good at stealth bombing i would alwas go for the TPs /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

about 20 months after i started i got good with ints and well the rest is whoring...
