Well I am into day three of playing this game and about all I have learned to do properly is drop EWS probes and try to find enemy bases and miners. Today less than 2 min into a round I get boot banned for not hitting insert fast enough.

The round starts and I go through the nearest Aleph . I drop a probe and then receive orders to go to a different sector. I hit insert and notice that there is a cash box less than 500 m away. So i think to myself, a little cash cant hurt the team. From the command screen I make my self head toward it to pick it up since it is not far out of the way. Suddenly orders start spamming on my screen (maby 10 orders in the span of a few seconds) then poof! boot ban. This happened at about 2:30 cst on the Planet DN 04.60 server on the blue team.

Is this typical behavior of commanders in this game?

I am currently a novice(4) and I was under the impression that i fell under the protection of this rule I found in the announcements.

8. You may not boot newbies. Anyone with a newbie tag of (4) or less is protected from booting.

If I am wrong about this please correct me.

PM BlackViper, he'll look into it. If the commander who booted you didn't PM viper with a good reason for the boot, there'll probably be a ban in store for them.

However, it is possible that you were in 'the middle aleph', and the commander had to boot you because it would have taken too long to explain the situation.

On the InsideOut map, there is a sector which joins the homes of the two teams, the alephs in this sector are very hard to find, but can be easily given away by the other team if someone is just flying around with missiles/shields up.

InsideOut is my first guess.

Just logged on. The map on the main server is InsideOut with you having been in game 1 minute.

Euler, the comm that booted you was wrong.

You did do something that would get a vet booted, but there was no reason for you to know that you shouldn't do it. It's an idiosyncrasy of that map.

As has been explained the commander is justified in booting him without first explaining because in that situation it isn't possible. however if the commander fails to pm BV and explains himself he should be looking at a ban. Also the comm should have explained the matter to the newb in question as soon as possible after the boot.
BlackViper wrote:QUOTE (BlackViper @ Feb 24 2007, 12:53 AM) But I am also realistic that on a very RARE occasion it might become necessary. The newbie going to the hidden HTT, the SB hidden, the middle aleph, etc. where time is of the essence. But what I expect you to do is immediately after that game via a PM on the forums, to post a message to that player explaining why you did what you had to do. Or if they are in the lobby, explain it to them as soon as possible. Again I see a consistent pattern emerging, I will deal with it harshly. I have a thread going in the @Alleg forums for us to track it.

The specific circumstances aside, the speed of le boot varies a lot from Com to Com.. Some will bring it out early to set a precedent, others will try and talk you through stuff.

This won't be the last time you get booted. I suggest you try not to take it too personally (whether it was right or wrong).

You are allowed up to three callsigns on one account so I suggest you make a second one. Next time you get booted you can just hop back into the server with your other callsign and keep on playing.

Trouble is, there is SO much to get wrong that you can't be doing the right thing all the time!

No reason to boot a noob going middle. The way I see it, middle aleph is not the big of a deal. If you failed as comm b/c your enemy see your home aleph through middle you shouldn't comm. Come on now. On any given game, there is less than 20 % that your enemy is heading straight for middle aleph. And the one that head for middle generally is a noob so he probably has no idea to chase down that that aleph.

Stop blaming other for your lack of command ability.

I have to disagree with this boot as well. At about the 3 minute mark I am finding your middle home aleph through your home anyway.

If the comm says stay out of the middle aleph, and then you fly in the middle with your shields and missile up then you will get booted. FACT.
