My buddies, in a Gmail thread we maintain, were discussing Starcraft 2. I said I wasn't that excited. I then said "Allegiance > Starcraft... too bad nobody knows about Allegiance except me!"
Two of them work at MS, so they've heard of it. He then proceeded to tell me that "Me and David [the other guy] have played several full rounds of Allegiance. It is not an RTS, it's a space sim...." blah blah blah, and then went on to say that an average player would wear out the content of Allegiance "YEARS" before a player would wear out Starcraft.

Starcraft isn't even that complex of an RTS, it has a nice ballance though between rock paper scissors and some of the nutso things they have been puting out lately. Makes for a fairly user friendly game that still has enough variation to be both challanging and interesting, which is why it's as popular as it is.
I played it again yesterday and still found it a lot of fun, may play it again tonight. Not many games after this many years you can say are still as entertaining as SC.
From a game perspective, I do prefer Allegiance, I just wish it had the population of SC.
