Heh, the wiki is godly. I'm running vista SP1 and got the same error when i just reinstalled the game. Setting the shortcut to run in compatibility mode [Windows Server 2003 SP1] Fixed the issue like a charm. Try it

lemme just make sure before I take anymore time with this haha. If I reinstall with avast minus the firewall bundle, and turn on my windows firewall with alleg excepted, will alleg still work? I have uninstalled McAfee and installed Avast!, but I still get the error message. I'm not sure if I have the ports opened properly, but I'll keep trying

I don't want to uninstall seeing as I do have a free subscription haha (new laptop) but I guess I'll have to, given there doesn't seem to be a way to completely disable McAfee for the duration of my playing.
