About

Early Career

I joined the game around November 2005 while searching for Abandonware on Wikipedia. I stumbled across Allegiance after it sparked a vague but enticing memory of a demo I received on a PC game's magazine cover disc way back when. Reading through a few pages of information I quickly downloaded the game and jumped into a server.

During my very first game I was flying for Global_Hawk and it had a fair few players. Seeing other people flying around in bombers (which I discovered in the ship selection page cost money) I tracked through the different F-key pages to find out how to get money. Yep, you guessed it, I stopped donating and received a prompt boot (after getting PM'ed and shouted at).

Undeterred, I came back to the game the next day (it was late and I used the boot as an excuse to go to bed), I discovered the wondrous device known as "chat". Luckily Globey was online at the time and explained to me what I did wrong, and offerred me some gameplay help. Ever since then I've been addicted to Allegiance.

Learning and Cadet

During my most newbish months, I played only on the main server and discovered a love of Stealth Fighters and Tactical. I consider myself an eager-to-learn type so I received tutelage from a lot of skilled players including Shizoku, Global_Hawk, NightRychune and McWarren4. It was the two XT that suggested I undertake Cadet when I announced flamboyantly that I "LOST MAH NUMBAH BIZNITCHES". So I signed up and was drafted by the insidious BlackViper into Cadet-A.

I discovered early on I had a love (or interest) of commanding and I believe my first command was GigaCorp which developed into an obession. Oh yes, during those early months I adored GigaCorp, flying often under a less-crazy JimmyNighthawk of yesteryear. This continued throughout Cadet and I soon discovered a talent for piloting the lovely GigaCorp ship known as "The Patty". Noir, being the kindly fellow that he is, soon anointed me "3rd Class Patty Rider", a rank I have cherished till this day. With my new career as a Patty Rider, I came into contact with the mythical "El Weedo" who along with Noir instructed me in the way of killing nubbins in mah Patty. When I was not training my Patty Ridin' skills with Weed, Noir and occasionally Culmination, Shizoku was berating me for commanding and teaching me the awesome "Patty/Lt Carrier Rush" that Giga used to DOMINATE during the earlier iterations of Dark Nebula Core. I owe a lot to those crazy bastards.

By now I was ready to graduate from Cadet. BlackViper told our class (Jan 06) that we were THE FIRST to ever get a Cadet Exam. We all performed admirably with nobody scoring below 90%. Since then, every other class has scored much higher than 100%, so I guess you could say our Cadet class lacked the ABILITY TO CHEAT.

One moment of note I remember from my Cadet training was an impromptu dogfighting session held by BlackViper and Culmination (with another instructor helping). I thank the lords to this day that I wasn't matched up with Culm...instead, BlackViper took me as an opponent and I proceeded to pod him with a tiny sliver of hull left.

I knew from that moment on, I was destinied to be a thorn, if a minor one, in the administration's side...

The Forums, Teamspeak and Steel Fury

I've always been an active member of the forums (read: spammer). I was even hit with a spammer tag back when we were on the old one, losing over 600 posts in the process. But I've always loved the forums. Allegiance would be a much sadder place without them.

After graduating Cadet, I scoured the Allegiance resources to find add-on programs that woukd make my experience more enjoyable. One of these was Teamspeak. The other was MDLViewer, but more on that later.

Teamspeak, after a rough few months because of my lack of a proper microphones became a regular hangout for me and it was there that I was introduced to other lively characters like Blake420, FingerBang, Saxy37, aarmstrong, Mastametz, Lykourgos and Psychosis. These players soon became a new source of information and entertainment and have confirmed a belief I have that Teamspeak is the best way to learn anything about the game. Eventually I found that a few other players I met in the past used Teamspeak as well, particularly Noir and Shizoku. If the forums make Allegiance lively, Teamspeak makes Allegiance a whole lot more entertaining.

During the closing weeks of Cadet, I began my search for a squad that required my unique talents (read: Patty Riding) and had a similar collection of personalities. My first choice was Palidor's Knights because Saxy and aarm were so cool, but I also received an offer from ACE. I liked a few people in ACE liek McWarren and BlackViper so they seemed to be another good choice. Of course like any other Cadet, I was curious about XT and SysX, mainly because they have 'X' in their squad tag and as everyone knows, an X automatically makes your callsign 100% cooler than it already is. Eventually I decided to not join any of those squads even though SysX had GreyVulpine and TMC at the time, and XT because I realised my callsign just wasn't cool enough.

Actually, I received an offer from another player, one "SF_Striker" who informed me he was resurrecting an old Allegiance Zone squad called Steel Fury. That cinched the deal right there. While the other squads were cool, none of them had a cooler name than Steel Fury so my choice was obvious.

I became CronoDroid@SF.

Later career and beyond

Since my tumultous early career, Allegiance has offerred nothing but enjoyment and satisfaction. I cannot claim to have played any game longer than Allegiance (2+ years) and probably never will.

Eventually I decided I could, with my huge array of "1337 skillz0rz" contribute something to the Allegiance Community, but like other side projects of mine, nothing substantial has arisen from this desire. I have, however, made dozens of crappy forum signatures, released a skin pack for Allegiance before R3 came out (I think I'm the only person who has), lended my sonorous vocal chords to creating a chatpack, joined Allegiance Command School as an instructor, joined the Zone Game staff as a writer and deputy game organiser and graced Allegiance with my powerful and controversial presence (read: Played the game often).

As of right now I hang around in NOAT, Teamspeak, IRC, the Allegiance Wiki and the FA Forums. I can be contacted anytime through angry PMs, angry whispers on TS, erasing my Wiki userpage, ASGS ban and trying to fight me in-game. Note that I will respond only to the last one by turning around, firing at your ship and then hitting tab while aiming myself at the nearest green door. In other words, don't contact me.
