ASGS Console Message: • The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.

From the looks of it, you've got some form of networking problem going on. Have you changed your "Work Offline" settings in Internet Explorer? (Check this even if you always use Firefox as your web browser) Have you tried using the HTTP ports instead of DirectPlay ports? (Click the ASGS menu within ASGS before logging in) Have you tried rebooting?

Another possibility, especially for European Player can be a Connectivity Problem to North America (where most Gameplay Servers are located). In this case you can try to use a different ISP when you have this available to choose; this can solve the temporary problem of your ISP delivery.
