While the [[Cadet]] course is seen as the normal method of joining a squad, squads often ask a player to join them if that player has impressed some members of that squad by demonstrating a high level of ability in game. Players may also ask members of a squad if they can join, the squad may then discuss the application privately and then come to a decision on whether accept the player or not, sometimes the squad may accept the player for a evaluation period or state some conditions the player must meet before being acceptable (e.g. complete the [[Cadet course|@Cadet]]).
