- Abbreviation: bbr
Bombers are one of the few ships that can destroy enemy stations, and is the easiest to access as the research is located under garrison. The bomber usually gets two turret gunners and many Nans, flys to the enemy station, and destroys it. However the bomber is easily destroyed by an enemy team camping an aleph, so a good idea is to try and remain unseen for as long as possible to minimise the time the enemy have to prepare its defenses.
Basic bombers are only effective in the early game as even Mk II tech can stop most bomb runs. Upgrades for weapons are available under the supremacy, however the best use of them late game is to research teleport probes (TP) which once deployed allow many bombers to ripcord directly to the probe, bypassing many of the enemy's defences. Combined with XRM missiles this tactic can become extremely cheesy.
Bombers can also serve as make-shift gunships, since they mount turret gunners and powerful missiles. If a team has no decent fighting ships, (very common early game for GigaCorp and Technoflux) a bomber pilot will sometimes launch hoping to have more Nans and better gunners than the other bomber.
Note You can enter a turret from the transfer menu, accessible while docked with F8.
Tip: When in a turret, zoom with your mousewheel, or other throttle keys.
