With the auction announced, it shouldn't be shocking that a rival faction would try to pull one over on Caius. The outpost that was housing the salvage has been destroyed in a surprise attack. No faction is claiming responsibility -- presumably nobody wants to antagonize Caius -- but this attack reminds me of the way Belters attacked the Dreghklar bases in their last major encounter. It might also be the Rixians, we all know how stealthy their bombers can be without missiles.
Fortunately for anyone looking forward to seeing scrap metal, the Belter convoy carrying the goods had left the outpost only hours earlier: Caius made the decision to have freighters move the salvage to a more advanced base where they could be studied. This report has only now come in to us, and, since the attackers' motivation seems to be wanton destruction, they are bound to pursue the Belters. If it is the Dreghklar, there's no way Caius will outrun them so his fleet will have to stay and fight. If it's the Rixians or some other faction, well, will Caius ever be able to live down a reputation as the Belter Who Ran?

When we got word that one of Caius' bases was destroyed and that the invaders were hot on their trail, it wasn't immediately clear what the fleet would do. As you might have heard from other sources, The Belters turned around and got ready for an encounter. And it has paid off! The Dreghklar forces were defeated and the Belter fleet picked up some extra salvage.
I even heard that they didn't lose a single miner while the Dregklar couldn't defend theirs properly.
Pretty good for a rag-tag junkyard army, I'd say. Maybe a little too good? I'm beginning to wonder what they are going to do with the money they raise from their upcoming auction.
