After the big Steam announcement, I hung around a bit, trolled a little, then sat back to see how things would settle out. To be honest, wasn't sure if it would take-off on Steam but crossed my fingers. It was funny watching how some people got super excited like it was the second coming. However, some members thought there would be an initial spark followed by a depressing fizzle. If I go by THIS forum, I'd say "fizzle" since this place seems like a depository for political discourse. However, I know that many have moved discussion over to Discord so maybe the game is a hit, but everyone is over there. So what happened? Are there new players? Did old players come back? Either way, top marks for the effort.

I disagree. It was a hit. Heaps of new players tried it out.
But in the end, if steep learning curve and idle servers didnt drive them away for something quicker and easier, the community sealed the fates of the rest.

The broken key mapping in the training missions certainly didn't help.
Luckily it has been fixed but I think that was one of the biggest reasons new players left.

This was, by far, the biggest problem, most of the bad reviews pointed to the keymapping as a deal breaker, with the uselessness of the training missions a second. Very few, pointed to the community.

...they showed up, found out it wasn't fun, and left.
Not difficult to understand. It isn't fun for so many reasons.
Take what they hate OUT of it, and maybe someone will stick around.

I think I'd enjoy this game at a professional, e-sport level. It's too high-stress to be a "log in and play for 30 minutes" game.

The irony of course is that the reason the keymap hadn't been changed in the last lifetime was because it won't match the keybinds in the useless training missions.
