Most weekday evenings/nights get some fairly decent games, but weekends are still the best showings.

This is the new popular media and politcal advice go be part of the STEM world and you will be ok. Its shortsighted, inaccurate, and frankly if you are not interested in the subjects in STEM stay away for my, yours, and the rest of societies sake.
The misconception comes from
this kind of uninformed reporting.

http://education.yahoo.net/articles/deg ... spects.htm while not all are not STEM and numbers are from some generic website
They fare better in down turns but...
You are going to get niched and specialized no matter what and it is almost certain your little world will go *boom* several times during your forty plus year career. The more specialized and niched the better the money until things go pear shaped and than it is a liability. Get a job in the
Oil Industry paying crazy wages in today's marketand odds are the industry will be producing people scrambling to get someone to give them a redo in say the aerospace industry before your imaginary(?) kids start school.
The explosion of good paying jobs in the fracking fields and Texas Oil over the last tenish years is a repeat of the 80s with some pretty spectacular busts in the middle. So it may be all good in the neighborhood if you get into designing heat exchangers for the piping system or perhaps the control system for the oil rig errrrm winches or etc etc but perhaps not. It will be complete luck and there is a high percentage that you will have to pack up and move several times in your career to maintain your life style. If you pick a field that dead ends or no longer needed you are in for some real hurt. Even if you get lucky and pick a good niche you are going to spend your life scrambling to stay relevant. Don't be surprised or your feeling hurt that at some point you are offered a buy out no matter how good you are or how high up.
The entire auto industry collapsed because the banking sector got greedy and people are stupid. This lead to massive lay offs including STEMs by the 100000s all at once and it took about right now for the positions to approach pre down turn numbers. Now you can get a job within the industry even with a beginning degree so thats good but compensation is down, way down even for STEMs. The reason for the high demand and the intense recruiting is more in the vein of once burned twice shy rather than there is some huge expansion in the this industry. Experienced professionals are gone for good given past experiences along with compensation no longer covering the risks inherent in such a cyclical industry known for binghing and purging jobs.
Aerospace and Defense tends to be on perigee when the consumer side is on the apogee and visa versa with the term "buy out" a fantasy for most people in this area and down turns so bad it spawned a movie called Falling Down. Software\Computers are safe right?
To be clear STEM is necessary for a good life tbs but depending on a pure STEM career is polly annaish and as everyone piles in to the fields the compensation and security will continue to decline.
