What do you think it is? (Disregard the fact that the game may be dead to rights currently)
Hard to put my finger on one specific thing. We've tried getting all the old players back into it; most have moved on.
So getting new players, to me, should be the most important thing... but how is that possible?
Currently ACSS is incredibly old looking. It's a windows tool box menu type deal. There is no cool graphics or anything that many of the current games have going for them.
However I don't think the way ACSS looks or functions is the main problem.
To me, the main problem is that new people aren't made WELL AWARE that this is "rebuilding" (i.e. semi-dead) game and that they should not expect there to be games going at all times, or even most times, at this point.
If we are to market this game it should be focused on certain times starting with the weekends and the people that download this game should be told this more than once during their initial startup.
IMO Saturday should be marketed as a "training day" pug extravaganza and Sunday should be a serious Game Day Type Scenario. No bull@#(! on Sunday. "This is when people come to play the game."
Perhaps Friday could be made into a Saturday type game scenario as well... as it already is.
Listen, without new players this game is dead. Most people would say this game is already dead, myself included. But if we have any chance to hold on to any hope for competitive play we MUST attract new players and they MUST be made aware that this game is $#@!ING AWESOME (DIRECT THEM TO AWESOME SQUAD PLAY VIDS IN THE INSTALLER ITSELF) and that it's worth it to set aside time on the weekends, when most of the remaining regulars play. (Making ACSS less FUGLY would be good in any scenario but god only knows how hard that'd be. (A SIMPLE LAUNCHER LIKE THAT OF ASGS WOULD BE BETTER IMO))
TLDR: Restructure how we try to attract new players in the install; include more than one mention that we are in a rebuilding phase and they shouldnt expect big games except certain times (the weekends), and they Saturday should be a pug type day and that Sunday should be a Test-What-You-Learned-On-Saturday type day; add links to the glorious sg videos that are APLENTY (as well as the allegiance facebook page); and if possible, make the acss launcher less $#@!ing ugly.
I guess that's more than one thing as mentioned in the title. But that's what I'd do if I had the skills and access.
