It's been a couple weeks now, going into withdrawal. So far I've tried the following:

Uninstall
Reinstall
Download batch of 325 files
Crash
Download batch of 167 files
Crash
Open Alleg 1.2
Wait 30-40 seconds before it pops up (used to be instant - not sure what happened here)
Type callsign and password, hit log in.
Watch attentively for 3-4 minutes to catch the "Logging In..." switch to "Server response timeout, please try again." for less than a second before going blank again.
I've done this a few times using both install links, I've reset password... I'm sure all the info is right.

I can connect to freeallegiance, I can connect to the leaderboards, I know the info is right and Alleg worked on this rig a week ago. Granted, I used to have to reinstall after every second or third session (wasn't all that bad), but now it isn't working at all. Any ideas?

The one time I've got into the actual Allegiance program through ACSS (or whatever the new system is called) it didn't let me join lobby since:

"Authentication Failure.

Please restart the game using the Authentication System."

Thoughts gentlemen?

Are you trying to play Allegiance from a university/school/library network?!

Most universities/schools/libraries use a proxy server for Internet access. This works fine with ACSS (which uses HTTP/HTTPS protocol only), but not with Allegiance (DirectPlay8 protocol).

There are only two solutions for this:
a) Get real Internet access without a proxy
b) Use VPN to get through the proxy (if possible)

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

That's good to know, thanks for the quick reply.
I'm encountering the problem on my home computer though... I do have a firewall but it's never been a problem before.

Drop the firewall just to see what happens, then bring it back up. I never use a firewall, I have Avast!

Avast has it's own firewall, that updates twice daily.

Hi Kellhus, give this a look over:

Take a look at this and see if the SFC Scan yields anything helpful?

Thanks,
