I really $#@!ing want to make this happen.

1) This is the GREATEST GAME EVER
2) This is the GREATEST GAME EVER for competitive play
3) Competitive e-sports is huge right now (have you SEEN League of Legends money? 1 MILLION grand prize?!)
4) Have I mentioned # 1 and 2?

So guys, be honest, how much would it cost and how much would you guys willingly donate to essentially remake this game from the ground up? And what kind of kickstarter rewards do you think would work?

I'm thinking each ship (btw, each ship WILL BE NAMED for members of this community. EXPECT the IC int to still be called the "weedman" etc.) will have a few sets of decals: first, the decal of the squad you're a part of (identifying you like the way the @PK or @SysX did), the second, a personal decal (earned by doing well in game or by donating to the kickstarter or maybe earned by playing in the public beta). I would keep the Cadet program and whether you were in, graduated, or a teacher in the Cadet program would be a decal you could earn as well.

Otherwise gameplay would be almost exactly the same. Who's with me? Who wants to bring this, the BEST GAME OF ALL TIME, into the 21st century?

Although I like the idea of a complete rebuild so we get the new / improved Alleg V2, I see a few potential problems.

First there are the legal, ownership and copyright issues, discussed to death before.

Second no one is going to spend a few $10K's to rebuild this game from scratch, if with the same effort they can make a game which might generate profit. It would mean that every player on this community would have to pay at least $500 to make this even work.

Third. I find it hard to believe that skilled coders and graphical artists would do this for free, in their free time, next to a busy job.

Four, even if you get a new game out, it will need an expensive server rack to run on. Which has to be payed too, every year.

More chance, imho, to "rework" the current code.

Or write to gaming studios to make an Allegiance like game for the 21st century. Or write to Microsoft.

If micosoft released their legal claim, I'd love to get involved.

Kickstarter is a thing. This game is the greatest competitive @#(! thing I've ever seen and e-sports is becoming a thing, so frankly this game is a perfect fit into the world of MOBAs that are becoming huge.

The plan isn't to get money from JUST this community, the plan is to aggressively market a kickstarter and get the money from people at large, then build a playerbase through a public beta, followed by open release which involves tourneys for cash prizes. Taking Allegiance the League of Legends route.

EDIT: $#@! MS's copywrite bull@#(!. I'll just make a different game that happens to have many similar aspects to Allegiance. Or ask them for the rights to make a new version, or simply figure out how much they'll sell the rights for. Whatever works.

EDIT the SECOND: rewriting the code probably won't fix it. Frankly the graphics need to just be flat out redone and so much of the code needs to be rewritten it's probably easier to just make a new game at this point.

The internet does not have a facepalm macro big enough to convey my sentiments about this idea. Believe me, I've looked.
