The main reason is because we almost never see high treasures as is, I don't have the stats available though I'd hazard a guess that less than 1% of games have a high treasure set now.

Updated to show new settings with High between original normal and high, and very high is the original high setting.

Updated

Code: Select all

None - Low - Normal - High - Very High
Start Home                       0       0      0       0         2
Start Neutral                    0      2.5     5      7.5       10
Per Minute Home                  0       .2     .2      .2        .4
per Minute Neutral               0       .5     .5      .5        .6

I'd suggest a little more tweaking;

Code: Select all

None - Very Low - Low - Normal - High - Very High
Start Home                       0          0     0      0       1         2
Start Neutral                    0        1.25    2.5     5      7.5       10
Per Minute Home                  0         .1     .15    .2      .25       .4
per Minute Neutral               0         .3     .45    .5      .55       .6

With the suggested changes we'll see a lot more games with a low treasure setting and quite a few with very low treasures.

I'm for a very minimalist implementation of treasures.
Lately in games I've seen far too many treasures floating about.
We must also consider the balance implications of treasures.

i.e. Nightflame continuously goes belters sup and literally only buys ship hull and figs from sup since they can get by with only stealing enemy tech/docking treasures.
gatt2 dis2 seeker2 boost2 dumb2 minepack1 mini2 prox2 etc
all usable by belters as any tech path at any time, once they're docked

belters for sure doesn't need any more help on this core

The number of treasures hasn't gone up lately, just our perception of them- especially after the XC no treasures default.

I think that less is better than more and some is better than none. Also remember that these settings can be used for any core.

Against some factions comms should not be using normal treasures unless the settings in other areas helps them to compensate, but it usually happens.

What I really like about the suggested changes is that we'll see games go from ~95% normal treasures to less than 50%, I really think that the low and very low options will get a lot of play. I'm actually optimistic and excited about it.

most "commanders" do everything they can to make an econ a non-issue for a game by jacking up the money/treasure settings

Tie all devels to a single research item that costs Out9 to research and takes 1s to complete.

There can be only one (money setting)!

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

+1

Yeah I think that we should ditch jimmy settings, make high/high maximum.
