So many of you are wondering why Allegiance is finally on its deathbed. So many times in the past have false harbingers declared the game dead, and we have all shot them down as never being there when the real "dark age" of Allegiance existed. Back in 2003, when there was no support, the game was indeed in a worst state. But even so, we are seeing the game dip to a level of players that is currently unsustainable.

Most people seem to be pointing to a lack of coding, the vanishing "ruling class" of coders, developers, and leaders. None of these are true reasons why Allegiance is now dead. There is one simple truth:

"Free to play" games happened to Allegiance.
Our greatest appeal was that we were a competitive multiplayer game that was free, back during a time when competitive multiplayer game were definitively not free.

Gaming innovation got the better of us. We can't compete with games that are just as competitive, which use matchmaking systems and large playerbases produced by professional advertising campaigns to allow low skilled players an easy entry into high learning curve games.

Simple fact of Allegiance: New players are forced to learn the game by playing with veterans.
We lack the code and playerbase size to do otherwise.

Simple fact of other F2P Multiplayer games: New Players can play with noobs, modern graphics, modern familiar gameplay, with modern upstanding UI and Tutorials, with rich support websites and active communities to immerse themselves in.

PC Gaming has changed. Allegiance hasn't.
C'est la vie.

Heh, well, Allegiance has taught me that games that are going bad almost has a strategy that could potentially work. Most of the skill is in choosing the best option for the job.

Want to fix Allegiance? Stop all work on everything else, and do the four following things:

1. Change the find a game in the lobby system. Put a super big button on the middle of the screen that says: "Find Match." Players click that, are sorted into teams on a server, and a commander self-nominates then the players vote for who wins.
We have a modern ranking system. Its time we used it for effective matchmaking.

2. Replace the default key bindings with ones that make sense (as has been proposed. I am not sure if this has already been done.)

3. Make going to "freeallegiance.org" redirect to a noobie guide, at the bottom of which includes a: Forum link, an AFS link, and a Wiki link.

4. Resume vigorous advertising.

I actually think to save Allegiance for the long run we need to buy the rights from Microsoft, then FAO can generate money and spend money to advertise.

Alleg is dead because its 10 years old and after you play for a few months it gets boring

The current lack of players doesnt help. The only hope is squad level play so the new player to alleg can understand why this game is worth putting in the hours and effort to "learn" to play the correct way(IE Spidey Fwiffo style)

If a player finds this game and logs on to only see a 5vs5 in what we call primetime he is unlikely to continue to play for long. However if he is lucky and logs in on Sunday just after SG time he may find a 30vs30 and really get what alleg is. However this is a rare thing nowdays

RIP Alleg, you were the greatest game ever made

PS :Those are the most valid points I have seen from MW. Not sure if his fixes will work but with so many other games to play...........well I am playing TW Rome atm remebering how many hours of fun I had 5 years ago. I will move on to Empire TW and then Napoleon since I have not played those in a while. I may even buy Shogun3 and give it a whirl

But I dont see alleg making a comback. I would eat my words if alleg hits 500 actives ever again(per 7 day)

Perhaps change the leaderboard to show last 365 days. At least it would "look" bigger
