So yeah. Christmas, time to go see a movie. Went to see that one.

... wow, just wow. :o

First of all, let me tell you that it's not Hollywood as you're used to it. The pacing, the soundscape, the depiction and context of conflict, sex and violence are very different, at least in my opinion. I was afraid the source material would have been turned into yet another Hollywood thriller.

So yeah. The less you know of the movie beforehand the better. It has a lot of impact. Some of the dark stuff made me quite uncomfortable, but some things should feel disgusting. Still, if you're very sensitive maybe give this one a miss. It's not any Eli Roth bull@#(!, I mean disgusting socially and psychologically... I don't want to post any spoilers so I won't elaborate.

The writer was making a point about the dark side of Sweden, in a larger context all us cozy Nordic countries. Take the dystopian aspects a pinch of salt, but I think people living elsewhere will find the setting interesting as well. The movie still feels like it's happening in Sweden, even tough the language is english.

My only real complaint is Daniel Craig. He's a great pick for James Bond or the lead in Cowboys and Aliens, but I wouldn't have cast him as a middle aged city reporter. He is _not_ an action star in the movie, but he can't help but look like it. Imagine he's an ordinary looking middle aged bloke if you can, and it will help. His acting isn't bad, but he is too much of a hunk for the part.

***

Enjoy, and happy holidays :innocent:

PS. The original title translates to "Men who hate women"

PPS. The poster is deliberately from the Swedish movie, just to show what the male lead should have looked like :)

We watched the Swedish film (subtitled) and can't wait to see the new film.

She is finishing the final book right now. I am glad to hear they followed the books.

Merry Christmas to all!

Will watch it as when possible, the title already attracts me... girls and dragons... phew, if it's in the same line as the Millenium trilogy as it seems based in a work of the same writer... (in fact had some time disguising in my head if it was part of it but the Craig ref won the belt) and yes, some mofo used to slap faces and break necks doing the hippy-jippy reporter is like instant powder capuccino... I mean, I love it...

David Fincher is not and never has been a Hollywood style director. The movies are a politically correct version of a Charles Bronson movie. Its on my short list and wondered why they picked Mr Craig myself.

Ignore the stupid translation of the name ladies and gents.

The name of the book and movie is, like stated above "Men who hate women"

By the way, the female lead is one hard core actress

QUOTE The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo began shooting in Sweden in September 2010.[39] Mara did not consider the film to be a remake, but an interpretation of the novel. "I plan on giving my interpretation of the character", she stated to Variety.[40] Mara's long brown hair was cut short and dyed black, in a style reminiscent of 1970s punk and 1980s goth fashions. She also had each of her ears pierced four times, and had her brow and right nipple pierced for the role. Her nose and lip piercings were fake. She kept the nipple piercing so that it would not need to be re-pierced for a sequel.[1] Mara's eyebrows were bleached, and she wore a temporary dragon tattoo.[36] She began preparing for the role by starting to skateboard and kickbox, and underwent dialect and computer training. She also visited Stockholm, the setting of the novel.[41] Mara was nominated for the 69th Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance.[42] The film was released on December 20, 2011.[43][/quote]
That is some commitment to the role there :o
