A thread for me to post my questions and get answers. Probably ongoing, since I'll no doubt think of more as time goes on. I haven't taken flight school yet, so these may be the newbiest of the newb questions.
Question 1: If I'm playing a scout, how can I tell from the minimap where I should be dropping probes? Is there fog of war?

Yay for AFS. I guess that makes this somewhat redundant, but as for the scout question: Looking at the mini-map, you should drop probes in unclaimed and enemy-held sectors that lie next to sectors where your team has bases (especially technology bases, sup, exp, tac, sy, and the garr itself of course). This way you will get early warning if an enemy bomber or other threatening thing is present in one of these sectors (well, if it comes near one of your probes, anyway, which is where the below comes in).
More specifically, you should drop probes near the alephs leading from these sectors to your team's sectors, as well as near the paths ships would likely take to get to these alephs. Drop probes "above" or "below" the alephs and these paths, however, rather than straight on them, so that the probes will be harder to find and kill. Somewhere between 700-900m above or below should be fine. Use the blue grid as reference for "above" and "below," of course; using the tactical view accessed by hitting F3 also makes this easier.
