Guys & Gals, this course material is all online. We might add a topic or two in here.

While there are set sessions planned the best way to use this opportunity to the max is by asking questions. Questions you can't ask in game or in the general forums without fear of ridicule.

So please ask away here. We might give you a shorter answer because the material is covered in depth in Cadet II, or the information is covered elsewhere. But your participation here is what makes this work! Fire away!

I've been playing a lot of games and people keep saying things like "d miners" or d whatever. What the hell does d mean?

in this context "Defend"

That is "Defend The Miners"

You will sometimes hear a voicechat "Defend our miners - they're getting hammered!"

Question: If I fly a ship that costs money (say a fighter-bomber which I did get to fly once) and somehow manage to survive long enough to re-dock (which didn't happen) and want to change ships what happens to the fig-bee? Does it just remain purchased for me ready for the next run? Basically I'm trying to find out if purchased ships are a use-it-or-lose-it item.

2nd Question: What is the best way to rescue pods? I've been using the F3 view to try to order them to come to me and then setting my auto-pilot for them, but using the F3 view is difficult when it's crowded. Is there a way to send orders to a targeted pod without going out to F3 using voice-chat or something? I also had one issue where me and the pod circled each other a few times before connecting. My guess is I should have just tried to stop and let them fly to me. Is that correct?

1)
You keep the cash (not the ship) and can spend it on another fig-bee/ship. You could even spend it on research or constructors like the commander does (not recommended).

2)
Either Right-click on the pod in your window or f3 to message it directly. Or follow the instructions here.

Also......

Yeah sometimes it's a lot better to stop and let the pod come to you.

Further to #1... you can always give the cash back to the commander (recommended) by using the donate button on the F6 screen.

Even further - single press of that button donates only a 100 credits, so you need to press it 5 times to pay back bomber money... a tad annoying, but that's how it is.

A phrase I've seen occasionally is "int bombing." What is that? It would seem to mean interceptor bombing, which does not compute.

It basically means "Bombing with interceptor support."

In a well run int-bombing a pack of interceptors will go in ahead - kill the defence and camp the base before the bomber gets there (the bomber will still have a few nans).

I can't find the AFS mumble server. Is there a special one or should I just use mumble.alleg.net?
