..... I'm at a Linux machine as always. Not a Windows kidney in sight.
I was thinking that if the authentication system has changed then is there a chance of getting Allegiance running on Linux?
I've had a lot of success getting windows games to run in Ubuntu using wine and the playonlinux front end. Surely it can't be that hard to get it to run native by recompiling the code or repackaging as .deb or .rpm.
A number of games are on both platforms but there are no real player authentication systems in place which is probably why they are available on all systems. They are all FPS though. after a couple of games they get boring though. I find I am only able to play a couple of game before my concentration starts to drift. #
Allegiance on the other hand is completely unique game that makes you lose the concept of the real passage time. It would be a great boon to me to be able to play on Linux during the day and on Windows at night. I my also help the player base a little as we could then put it in the get deb repo's or maybe even do our own Allegiance repo.
What do you think. Is this workable now?
Awaiting your response with baited breath,
Flaps.
I would love to play ...
There was some work getting it to work on WINE
Scratchee was also working on it.
Heres fuzzs files where he got to
If you can get it running on WINE using a beta version you can go fly on the beta servers a bit, which would be a step forward.

You manage that Orion, and I'll finally go on that date with youOrion wrote:QUOTE (Orion @ Sep 30 2010, 08:58 PM) This is an aim of the ACSS team; once it is released we will begin working on a Linux port.

<bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH
<bp|> or an obsessive compulsive paladin of law like Adept
That is going to be so cool. I can hardly wait!! The high res graphics updates will no longer be a chore to find and any major updates will come down with everything else.Orion wrote:QUOTE (Orion @ Sep 30 2010, 06:58 PM) This is an aim of the ACSS team; once it is released we will begin working on a Linux port.
Just think of it; Take Allegiance everywhere with you in your thumb drive. Just install puppy onto the thumb drive and then install Allegiance then pop it into any pc with a net connection and just play. Each installation could be uniquely ID'd that way. Even Allegiance on Android, playing Allegiance on the phone, on the train, on the way to work. POW!! Take that world!!
I've had a look around and it looks like puppy will run mono. I am going to check out what Fuzz did and see if I can get it running on puppy. I think puppy is a good choice for platform because I have yet to find a PC it won't run on. It ccertainly gives 10+ year old machines a new lease of life and they are building off the back of the Ubnutu repo's so it's got all the latest stuff in it. It also keeps with Allegiance folk law, in respect that old PCs are the best PCs to play on.
I was so excited when I read the feed back on this tread that I jumped up and down shouting "YES, YES, YES", which is a really unsual thing for a Brit to do unless one of your tight-wad mates has just agreed to buy the next round.
