So this is not really a problem about setup so I won't post the template.

I used to have a 5 years old computer that has Athlon XP 2.Ghz and have been playing for a while. I don't know when I started to notice that I get lag during game but it affecting my game play a lot. I looked at the CPU processing at Alleg is taking 90% of my CPU. I figure that this an old cpu so if I upgrade I should see tons of improvement.

I recently upgrade to a better processor E6400 core duo and install windows 7. I expected that Alleg will no longer hogging my cpu but to my surprise it is taking 60% of my CPU. Heating the processor up a lot making my CPU fan spin 100% just to cool it down. I even got NVDIA GE GT240 graphic card. This is a low end card but compare to what I have 5 years ago this should be 20 fold if not more. Yet it appears that Alleg does not use much of the Graphic card power. Can some one explain to me how does a 10 years old game use 60% of E6400? I am so disappointed b/c now every time I play my CPU fan humm like a tornado and computer gets very hot?

E6400 is not the most powerful processor but compare to a Athlon single core 2.0 GHz this should scream but it doesn't. I mean the game ran smooth but taxing the processor quite a bit. Doesn't this game use the graphic card at all. The GPU runs cool. I checked the setting and it said that it is using the graphic card. I was thinking that it is using software rendering but it didn't report as such.

Any idea?

That's normal.

Alleg is always using 100% of CPU resources (on multi core system 100% of one core).

Blame MS for bad coding. ;)

no that's not normal -- R6 does not do that for me, I'm also on Windows 7. He is probably blocking Microsoft and the games explorer bug is hitting him. This is fixed in the latest build / installer.
