Code: Select all

Tracing route to planet.dras.us [70.86.91.82]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  5     *        *        *     Request timed out.
  6     *        *        *     Request timed out.

So is this my stupid Vista acting up, or?

As far as no security/firewall...I *think* I uninstalled them back when I tried to get allegience to work about a year back and never installed them back. Checked windows security and everything's off.

If you can't ping or tracert to planet, then it's definitely something at your end. Take a look at your router and make sure the gaming ports aren't blocked (sometimes called "Microsoft Gaming" or similar).
If that doesn't help, try to find a model number or something on that router. I don't know what telus uses.

Took my router's firewall off just for testing. Do you happen to know the port number? I'd rather not open everything...

Allegiance uses port range 2300-2400. There is usually a built-in port blocking rule in the router's settings called MS Gaming Zone (or something similar). Make sure, that traffic is allowed on those ports for both TCP and UDP.

there's not a built-in function but I've allowed 2300-2400. still no luck.

Same tracert as above, works fine until the 12th hop.

The 12th hop isn't a problem - that just means it's configured not to respond to ping requests. Your original reading was problematic. Your second one is now indicating that you can get through. So now that we know you can ping the server, can you confirm that you can't connect with Alleg now?

Have you ever had antivirus software on your comp? Especially McAffee or Norton? Sometimes you need a specialised cleaner software in addition to uninstalling for those.
