Heya, I just noticed a strange bug. The (#) next to the noobs' nicks seem to be out of sync with their real rank for some reason. I don't know, if this is related to the latest asgs-server issues. I just want to give you a heads up. Here is a screenshot:
For some noobs the (#) is displayed right, for others it is inflated...

This is great! I am back to a zero, so this time around I can look like a somewhat promising noob instead of the really crappy one I was during my first time from level 0 to 5 =)
I am starting to get the hang of it... (My command of the game is amazing)
1) Look cool, act cool
2) Bra, brag, brag
3) Boost, boost, shoot, shoot, overboost, boost back, missiles, chaff, spray, missiles
4a) Die
4b) The occasional kill
5) More usually a nice Podride
6) Tell yourself "Naaaahh, you really are cool!"
6) Rinse, repeat

It's no bug...
ASGS gets number behind the callsign on login and only updates it if you login.
In-game ranks are requested by Allegiance game server directly from ASGS server.

PKK is correct; check other people's ranks as well. ASGS sends the callsign@squad(#) upon log on and that's it.

I was under the impression that ranks 0 to 5 were really only markers for time spent playing:so why are people going from 0 to 1 to 1 to 0 to 1 to 0 etc, when they are logging more hours?

Nope, it's not time based. AS makes a calculation based on what it knows of your game history.
